GiftFromGod Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Both were far from being smash hits, but still managed to have respectable chart runs as singles. Which of these third singles from their respective eras was bigger?
Letters From Adi Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Karma nearly hit #1 and spent a few weeks in Top 10, while the other song couldn't enter The Top 10. I think it's an obvious choice. 4
allforyou Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Even though the boy is mine is the better song Karma was the bigger hit, it peaked at #2 on the hot 100 while TBIM didn't go top 10 1
Calvin Posted October 7 Posted October 7 What is 'the boy is mine'? No one knows that. Karma was everywhere last year. 1 1 1
blown away Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Karma, and it's not even close. When it was released as a single TBIM made virtually no noise, unfortunately. 3 1
laqqinq Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Is this a setup lol? It's evidently/obviously Karma. The solo and remix charted for 30 weeks on the Hot 100, cumulatively, and Ice Spice got the charting credit since the remix was significant to it, we know the chart rules. It went #2 and was close to going #1 at a point IIRC? TBIM had hype and cosigns from many celebrities using the sound and people on TikTok using the sound when ES had just been out, but by the time they pushed it as a single on radio, dropped the music video, and the remix with Brandy and Monica, it had fizzled out. Neither did any of that significantly help it attain a new peak (which it needed a big streaming push/stability and good radio to get to, in the first place). The physical release and remix did push it quite a number of spots to top 40/top 50 IIRC. It peaked at #16 on Hot 100 and spent 20 weeks charting, and missed the top 10 by a spot (#11) on the Global 200, on which it spent 17 weeks charting. Cute and respectable chart run for a post-album, third single. 3
DevilsRollTheDice Posted October 7 Posted October 7 (edited) In hindsight, Karma was actually a very successful third single. Especially for an album with such huge initial consumption. Great recurrents, stats, AND a great chart run. Oh, Tayhitmaker, they hate to see you excel at everything. Edited October 7 by DevilsRollTheDice 1

jezebelvictoria Posted October 7 Posted October 7 The better question is which single should've been bigger. I can't believe 'the boy is mine' didn't even go top 10.
