JuanXito Posted October 6 Posted October 6 (edited) Nobody defines gaga's discography as a masterpiece, she's not hugely acclaimed or praised by the heavens...her discography is certainly not perfect. I think her discography may appear "overrated" because so much of her "consensus greatest work" is concentrated in the first 3 years of her career, while she's been in the industry now for close to 15 years. I think her discography is not her strongest suit. I know every word to all her songs, and love listening to her albums but honestly I think she could have created higher quality and timeless lyrics and compositions, delve into subjects at a deeper level as a musician, with more cutting productions…at the price of less commercialization. There's no doubt in my mind that the first 3 albums are better than the latter 3 albums . TF, TFM, and BTW are just far more consistent, cohesive, creative, and forward-thinking than AP, Joanne, and Chromatica Edited October 6 by JuanXito 2 1 12
Venice B Posted October 6 Posted October 6 (edited) Yes, she only has two good albums (three if we count the Monster EP as a standalone) Artpop has some nice songs, but it's a mess. Joanne is boring and bland. Chromatica is not cohesive and super generic. Edited October 6 by Venice B 9 1 10

The Music Industry Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Kinda. Her last great album was released in 2011 (BTW). Artpop has some great songs, but all in all is very inconsistent in quality. Everything released after that has not stuck or was dated on arrival. 4 1 9
zoldyck Posted October 6 Posted October 6 The first paragraph highlighting how no one is praising her discography then going on to call it overrated 1 11

Loca Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I don't think anyone praises her discography like that. You even stated so on the first paragraph.
Anthinos Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I think she gets a lot more negativity than other artists. I've never understood the hate for Artpop. In my opinion it's a well produced album and it sounds good even in 2024. Chromatica was also a good album. Her only "bad" album for me was Joanne. What I would like is for her to start experimenting more again. But overall I think her catalog is very strong.

Cain Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Not really? No one is saying it's amazing, she has more duds than masterpieces and she's mostly looked upon fondly for her breakout years Honestly 2009-2011 is doing a loT of heavy lifting for her overall career ever since, luckily she found soundtracks and collaborators to be successful with now. But when people think of 'Lady Gaga', they think of her image from 2010. Crazy, eccentric, and ubiquitous
KatyPrismSpirit Posted October 6 Posted October 6 The Fame Monster —> Legendary Born This Way —> Magnum Opus, Iconique, Legendary Artpop —> Unrealistic expectations not met, Gaga lost some legitimacy Joanne —> Overhated album but not good, so and so A Star Is Born —> Essential Gaga album, but singles are main highlight Chromatica —> Expectations not fully met but still decent Harlequin —> Overall solid album to ME I dont think her catalog is overrated. Maybe if people act like chromatica, joanne and artpop are very good but nobody outside of a few radicalized liddos claim that 7
suburbannature Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I don't think it's overrated by anyone but Monsters. People recognize that she has iconic singles from her first three years + Shallow but subpar albums. I do think she has an acclaimed album in her, though. It will happen eventually. She just needs to stop playing it safe trying to please everyone.
Technicolor Posted October 6 Posted October 6 It's fairly rated. She always has been a mixed bag but she has her moments of brilliance here and there
burninredhot Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Among the chronically online gays? Yes Among the GP? No
Rotunda Posted October 6 Posted October 6 People don't really praise most of her discography. Artpop: Dragged Joanne: Dragged Chromatica: Called Underwhelming ASIB: Really only 3 tracks are discussed Harlequin: Well… 1
halcyonday Posted October 6 Posted October 6 The Fame (Monster) is a legendary album even though some of the album tracks are fillers. Born This Way is almost a skipless masterpiece with the most of her career highlights. ARTPOP has some of her worst songs like Swine or Manicure, but also some of her best like Do What U Want and Gypsy (cute TEOG daughter). Joanne is a complete chop. Chromatica is underrated and overrated at the same time? Like, it was dated on arrival, but it's kinda the dated basic pop done right. Even though some songs are awful like Enigma and Plastic Doll... It's a cute album ala 143 and Bebe Rexha and I like it! Shoutout to ASIB for having her best ballads ever, I'll Never Love Again, ARUTW, Before I Cry, Is That Alright, and fun bops like Why Did You Do That and Heal Me. Overall a legendary pop discography without that many awful duds - what drags it down are all these jazz albums I couldn't care less about. 1
HardBambi Posted October 6 Posted October 6 From Just Dance to Bad Romance she was great, that was her absolute peak. After that unfortunately she went from a 10 to a 7 and Chromatica was not even a 5

AvadaKedavra Posted October 6 Posted October 6 (edited) I actually feel her discography is very underrated. She has very unique songs with strange lyrics and melodical structures, themes and vocal effects and stuff. So many singers today have such a predictable discography with predictable-typical topics-sound lanes Gaga songs are very unique in a way. Her discography is also kinda ecletic with different genres and vibes and thats something to praise. Her genre shifts There are 3 singers atrl love to praise all the time......but u listen their discography and it feels so similar. There's no real evolution there. So damn safe. One thing we need from Gaga is a big experimental album. Something totally left field but no jazz. More like Synthpop-Electronic-Avant Garde artsy Cause she loves to water down her projects for commercial points I feel like she's hast explored 100% her potential as an artist. She has the brain for it. One thing i agree is...... I just feel like her discography could have been executed better when she started but i think is very special on her own She shines when she goes weird and she's ambitious about her projects Edited October 6 by AvadaKedavra 1
Johnny Jacobs Posted October 6 Posted October 6 (edited) Tfm is her only good album. Fight may Edited October 6 by Johnny Jacobs 1 3
momal Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Yes, but not as overrated as Britney's who doesn't have any good albums. Blackout is generic dance crap with shallow and ******ed lyrics. 1 3
shyboi Posted October 6 Posted October 6 It's no Britney's, Bey's or Taylor's but i wouldn't call it overrated tbh
