KennethPettyGang Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I literally had Twitter since 7th grade and it has done nothing but turn me into an Atrler ban it all! 2

Darius Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I'd rather media literacy be introduced as a mandatory subject in schools cause it's not like social media is going anywhere and banning it will make kids want to be on it more 2
Tayman Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I'm so thankful that I grew up mostly without social media. Facebook went popular when I was idk, maybe 10? But I was always really late to everything so I never really cared about all of that until I was 15/16, and even then it wasn't a big part of my life, so I think he has a point. 1

This, but unironically. I started at 13 and had to snap into reality quick towards the end of my undergrad years. It was a real struggle to give my undivided attention to lectures. That being said, an immediate and complete ban of all medias would be unwise and cause a meltdown. Teachers and parents need to start setting reasonable boundaries and take it onestepatatime.mp3

loveisdead9582 Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I agree with this. Not long after I graduated high school I heard about a bunch of suicides in other nearby high schools from children being bullied on social media - mostly by their peers and classmates but on occasion by some adults. Children are already glued to devices these days. They need to learn to socialize outside of a device.
Communion Posted October 6 Posted October 6 People always call China authoritarian yet its approach to TikTok and how young people's accounts can only be used for a certain amount per day without adult permission seems like something most people want in practice. 2
BrokenMachine Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Well, there's a reason why Facebok and Instagram are for people over 13 right from the start. I even remember YouTube on its early days didn't allow children to create an account. Most children of my generation jumped over those restrictions tho Sadly nowadays is harder for kids to have a safe space online. I can only think of... Roblox or Minecraft lmao
Mr.X Posted October 6 Posted October 6 3 hours ago, Initials said: All of that and parents should stop posting videos and photos of their children online. Keep it for your family and friends exclusively. This. It's so ******* creepy, like the children can't consent to this crap, leave them teh **** alone. Plus, it is well known that pedo rings use random people's chidlren's likeness for their own perversion. It must stop
Ichinaru19 Posted October 7 Posted October 7 9 hours ago, John Slayne said: now... it's been a few years since i was in high school but i don't think kids in most places have outlets on their desks and teachers DO confiscate phones when used in class. It depends on the school district, in many schools it has become a losing battle with students using their cell phones.
Capris Groove Posted October 7 Posted October 7 What we need to do is bring hard legislation down on any addictive features of social media, like infinite scroll, swipe-down to refresh, the explore page, likes/hearts, etc. Time to remove that bullshit. Social media's not the problem, the monster that they turned it into around 2012 is. They purposely redesigned it to be as addictive as possible. Nobody was addicted to MySpace, LiveJournal, chat rooms, or early Facebook, when there was no such thing as a like, you wrote on people's walls and made groups. In fact the internet has always been a huge asset to LGBTQ kids and any minority. I know for sure it let me find like-minded people and I have really fond memories of being able to join a pop forum and talk about Madonna, or a horror film and talk about queer horror films. 1
Alldeezy Posted October 7 Posted October 7 well they aint wrong me being 15 on ATRL & Last.fm was a mental illness and it still haunts me this very day and this is with dial up internet! and using the School computers because they didn't block atrl I'd HATE to know what it be like if I had a smart phone and not a flip phone! like its so bad now. Kids are evil on social media these days 1
