naval23 Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Truly one of the most impactful songs of the 2000s Imagine going against "I'm With You" by Avril and "White Flag" by Dido and still winning the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal 3
KatyPrismSpirit Posted October 5 Posted October 5 No. I'm happy Linda Perry didn't fall into P!nk's trap to give it to her because Christina's name was set in stone for this song. Her best song ever. 2
KillingYourCareer Posted October 5 Posted October 5 I don't think so. It was the right song at the right time - and for the right voice.
RideOrDie Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Yes. Britney would have done it better. Deal with it. 2 12
Mocha Posted October 5 Posted October 5 well Bey hadn't debut yet so i'd say it went to the right artist!
Illuminati Posted October 5 Posted October 5 (edited) I think Xtina's voice really shines on it and it's what makes that song so memorable. It's easily one of the best songs from my childhood Edited October 5 by Illuminati

Minto Posted October 5 Posted October 5 I think P!nk would've been the next best contender but she wouldn't have sold it as well as Xtina emotionally. Outside of that no one during that time could.
ChooseyLover Posted October 5 Posted October 5 (edited) Absolutely nobody would have made this song justice like Christina. But watching its daily streams it's a shame this song isn't as big among younger generations as it should because the message still resonates deeply in today's society. A Xtina resurgence 100% needs to happen at some point but I don't think she has the right team to make that happen. Edited October 5 by ChooseyLover
blown away Posted October 5 Posted October 5 The right singer was chosen for this song. I'm also glad that after the first take, Linda refused to let Christina re-do the vocals. She sounds perfect, both restrained and demure yet powerful.
Roberto Posted October 5 Posted October 5 I can see Pink, Kelly or Beyoncé doing it justice too, tbh. 2 1

All Guns Blazing Posted October 5 Posted October 5 No although it would have been interesting to hear Pink's version
Eternium Posted October 5 Posted October 5 No. Christina showed a moment of authenticity with this at the right point in her career. The song was a smash because of what it meant to Christina's career, not just because it was a good song. 1
slw84 Posted October 5 Posted October 5 I think this song was right for Xtina but Pink could have done something with it ONLY if she would have used her Misery ft Steve Tyler vocals. It wouldn't have worked with Beyonce because she is undeniable and universally attractive. Kelly would have killed it vocally but it wouldn't have connected in the same way. It needed to be someone who was overshadowed by a beautiful artist and had an anti brand to show they are not selling beauty...they are selling vocals.

Beautiful and Fighter were the 1-2 authentic punch and it was smothered in appropriation singles before and after. Had she lead her era with Beautiful, then followed with Fighter and went against the hip pop trend...whew she might have been a little bit of a threat to Pink, Avril and some others eventually aiming for A/C and pop rock audiences.
