latingrl2005 Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Both actors are too pretentious. Hence, Gaga' flop 3rd album, she tries to turn everything into to high art. Its a comic book story.... 10 1 10 2 8
Shimenawa Posted October 5 Posted October 5 That Toad guy who did a bad job at directing, and turning the Joker into a musical 8
Sheep Posted October 5 Posted October 5 (edited) Committing to a Lady Gaga musical as a sequel to Joker was an enormous risk and it looks like either the director or studio got cold feet and tried to turn it into a serious courtroom drama in the edit while neutering what was supposed to be the main character. We ended up with a halfstep between a real Joker sequel and the film that was originally pitched, where Joaquin Phoenix is somehow doing all the singing in a film with one of the most popular singers to ever live. The backlash is overblown but it's still a seriously unbalanced movie. I really liked the film but I can see why it has niche appeal. Edited October 5 by Sheep 1 3
GentleDance Posted October 5 Posted October 5 People into Joker are not into musicals and most certainly not into Lady Gaga 6 1
Letters From Adi Posted October 5 Posted October 5 It should've been a full musical or a serious movie, not the midway mess we got. 4

Aristede Posted October 5 Posted October 5 It being a musical. People who liked the first one (straight men) aren't going to want to watch a musical. They should've just made a normal, straightforward movie. And then Gaga trying to gaslight the public about it, saying "oh, it's not a musical. The characters just use music to convey their feelings because dialogue isn't enough." That is literally the definition of a musical. It's like if someone said "Oh, it's not a slasher film. It just has a masked character killing rowdy teenagers the whole time." 6
808dream Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Joker 1 was edgy and fierce, those who liked that dark psychological twist turn did not appreciate the musical inserts in joker 2 of course. it's definitely not Gagas fault but the director's, who messed with the direction the movie took. This said I truly hope she'll throw her obsession for jazz down the gutter, stop handling her career like a Barbra Streisand 2.0 and go back focusing on making amazing pop albums like she's always done. Constantly dissipating energies in side projects is doing her NO good. . 1 5

Yeah the whole "he cut Gaga out and that's why it failed" is obviously copium. Todd Phillips had complete creative control over this film and that's why the budget ballooned out of control. He's just a terrible director who made a terrible film.
aesthetic bih Posted October 5 Posted October 5 • Uninteresting plot • Too much musical scenes and they don't do anything to improve the story (i.e., pointless and unnecessary) • Not enough HarleyGa scenes • The progression between scenes is either too slow and too drastric. So confusing, girl.mp3 2
Gladiator Posted October 5 Posted October 5 (edited) Maybe the criticism (despite the praise on her part for her performance, mostly) will push her back into primary focus being music. I love Gaga and of course she is free to do what she pleases with her career (I will be waiting either way), but as a fan and consumer who has absolutely no interest in her acting career, I'd love for her to stop taking up acting projects that get in the way of potential new music. Sad Beautiful Tragic Posted October 5 Posted October 5 She's always relied on gimmicks, but when those gimmicks became repetitive, combined with terrible music and that disastrously produced Joker film, she was bound to fail. I fully support creative freedom, but maybe she could use someone to help rein her in a little. 1
Bears01 Posted October 5 Posted October 5 As soon as it was announced the movie was a musical, it was either gonna have to be a knockout homerun, or it was gonna be an epic failure. No in between. Seems like the latter won 4
Johnnyboi Posted October 5 Posted October 5 They let Todd Philips direct another movie after a mediocre devise first movie. 1
