Are the attacks on Gaga for "Joker: Folie à Deux" gratuitous?

Of course they are. If you have followed any movie in your life other than Katy Perry: Part of Me, you know that the actors are responsible for nothing beyond their performance. The movie having an inconsistent tone, a bad script and superfluous musical performances is not her fault, it's the fault of the director, screenwriter and editor. This is literally movie criticism 101. Gaga's performance has been praised as the high point of the film and the reviewers are saying she was wasted in the film so again, I'm not undertsanding where this outburst of criticism towards her is coming from, other than frustrated KatyCats trying to change the subject from 143 being a failure. No one is saying Anya Taylor Joy is at fault for Furiosa failing or Cate Blanchett for Borderlands. But again, I'm expecting too much of ATRL.

:cm:

GaGa delivered another well-received performance and atrl is lashing out since they can't run with their panned actress narrative

Then what is this?

Joaquin Phoenix's eponymous Joker takes the stand in a sequel that dances around while the story remains still, although Lady Gaga's wildcard energy gives Folie á Deux some verve.

The one responsible is the director, however Gaga was dumb to focus so much energy and attention on this movie.

She needs to focus on her own artistry.

This.

Even Sandra Bullock has said it. It's all about choosing the right movies. Gaga is horrible at that and she wasted years already in bad projects. So yeah she is not to blame for this movie but she in hindering her career as an actress.

It's only gratuitous when it impacts your fave :cm:

It's kind of funny how Gaga had little to no collaborations before, and now collaborations is all you guys rely on. :skull:

Dragging an actress praised for her performance as the reason a movie flopped is next level mento illness, but this is ATRL so that checks out

I regret letting the empath in me take over and show mercy for Katy these past months. Because now, the cats are biting Gaga HARD.

Now that, I think is universally accepted. Although for Joker she was only sent half the script when she signed on and the consensus seems to be that the movie collapses at the second half. Still, she's wasting her talent on bad movies ever since HoG.

:michael:  Maybe but I don't know what that word even means.

I mean it was Thank you to every artist she worked with since 2018 until now where the OGHs switched it up to pin it on GaGa

If anything it seems like reviewers are being intentional about letting people know Gaga was the saving grace in the movie. I still think a lot of the negative reviews are motivated by execs wanting to drag Joaquin for dropping out of that movie last minute.

Yes, she's apparently the only good part of the movie. At the same time, though, I would love it if she chose her roles better. The goal is good lead roles in good movies, not good cameo appearances in bad movies (HoG, FaD, Machete Kills, Sin City 2) :dies:

Irrespective of JFAD or Harlequin's floppage, Gaga will almost certainly have the #1 movie and song on the global charts.

That sums it up pretty well! Judge the reactions of OGHs on this forum accordingly :clown:
