BorderBoy Posted October 2 Posted October 2 (edited) Will you care? Or do you think public figures should stay out of such subjects and only focus on their careers? For example, I used to be fascinated about Lady Gaga. But seeing how silent she remained on the genocide in Palestine while numerous high profile celebrities said something (including even Katy Perry) made me feel a bit off about her especially that she always said she stood up for equality and freedom and did have opinions on political matters in the past. Some may say that 'well she's a singer, what can she do?", okay, she was assigned to be co-chair of President Biden's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities so she could've at least signed the petition/letter made by celebrities asking the President to implement a ceasefire. But she never did that. I also found out that she signed an anti-BDS letter in 2022 (not that long). The letter was made by a Zionist organization named Creative Community For Peace. BDS stands for the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement works to end international support for Israel's oppression of Palestinians. So yeah, will your fave having different political views from yours affect your affection of them? Edited October 2 by BorderBoy
bjorn Posted October 2 Posted October 2 She's after ha OSCA she needs to please the Hollywood committee
Virgos Groove Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Honestly, I'm fine with not knowing Kylie's political views because they're probably a mess. The only "political" stuff she's ever shared is supporting queer rights (duh) and wanting Australia to become a republic (way back in the 90s, before she became a Royal Family darling). Most of our favs are multimillionaire capitalists. It's nice when they get outspoken about good causes, but I don't expect them to. 2
ontherocks Posted October 2 Posted October 2 (edited) Yes of course cause I don't have to go to work, hit the gym, clean up my flat, pay my bills, hook up with hot men or use music for purely egoistic reasons of entertaining myself. Yes unfortunately I don't think Kylie's views would be very appealing to liberal parts of her fanbase. I do not ever expect her to extend them to us either, which makes me kind of grateful.
Relampago. Posted October 2 Posted October 2 I would unstan for sure, but would still listen to their music 3 minutes ago, Virgos Groove said: Honestly, I'm fine with not knowing Kylie's political views because they're probably a mess. Jay07 Posted October 2 Posted October 2 It's been a rough couple of weeks for me with Janet saying all that ignorant stuff about Kamala and Lana marrying a transphobe anti vaxxer. Look, I draw the line at being hateful. I don't think I would care if one of my faves were conservative but being MAGA is an act of violence against women, LGBTQ, black and brown folks etc. If one of my faves explicitly endorsed I would probably unstan but I hope they're too socially conscious, or at least too smart to do that.

I don't see the conflict here. 1

She's a rich 50 year-old white woman who spent most of her life in the UK and has never spoken up about (almost) anything. Plus, her fans of the same age tend to have some... unsavory views. I'm not saying she's a Tory or anything, but she's not leading the revolution either. 3

She's almost 60 and a rich white woman; those factors naturally lead you to a somewhat conservative mentality even if you're ignoring everything else. Then there's the fact that even at the least commercially viable and most artistically experimental point of her career she did not really express any left-leaning viewpoints (except her support for the queer community, of course), which means she's likely been a moderate at heart throughout her life and so she probably does not have very strong views on things like the ongoing genocide, systematic racism etc. 2

Trent W Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Depends on the degree I don't mind republicans or moderates If they are too active and too engaged with someone like Trump or consistently posting extreme right wing content I would have a problem But someone like Lana being conservative doesn't bother me for example
Vixen Eyes Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Only if Kesha comes out as someone who supports the killing of gay/black/marginalized people. And that's NEVER gonna happen!

bielneira Posted October 2 Posted October 2 I wouldn't stop listening to their songs, but I'd most likely stop being a fan. If her views are against me as a person and what I represent, why would I idolize someone like that? I kinda did this with Taylor Swift (not for political views tho)
BTS Posted October 2 Posted October 2 The opposing parties in Ireland have the exact same views. They're basically the same party I wouldn't really care whatever they support
Reginald Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Many of my faves are my faves because of how they tie their political stances into their art 1
