What happened to Hollywood Records?

What's happened to Disney's once prolific Hollywood Records? After struggling in the 90's they were pulled out of bankruptcy by Hilary Duffs sophomore album "Metamorphosis" in the 00's.

After that success, they went on to create multiple Disney pop girl/actress clones to rousing success with Demi, Selena, Miley, Raven, Sabrina, Aly&AJ, Lindsay (to an extent with the Teenaged Drama Queen soundtrack) and even had some major pop boys (Jesse McCartney, Jonas Brothers).

Their current lineup is:

Adrian Lyles

Almost Monday

Andy Grammer

Freya Skye

Area 21

JoyWave

Kenzie

Little Image

New Hope

Sofia Carson

TINI

Queen

A quick look, and most these artists seem to have middling success at the moment or even haven't released anything :rip:Do you live for any of those artists? What happened to the Disney turned pop-girl formula? I remember a time when they had at least 4 major artists at a time. Are they over?

Hollywood records has literally never been a good label most of the success they have had has been by chance and from coasting off of people who were already popular like Miley, and hilary. It was literally a dead label before Hilary revived it and even after her success they were very hit or miss with success stories like raven, Vanessa hudgens, and Corbin bleu couldn't get music careers off the ground with Hollywood records, Jesse McCartney's success didn't last that long and neither did Hilary's really. Miley already had chart success with the Hannah Montana soundtrack before she even released her first album as Miley Cyrus so she attached her debut album to the b side of second Hannah soundtrack before getting an official Hollywood records album unaffiliated with Hannah Montana. The Jonas brothers were already rising tween stars when they got picked up by Hollywood records and they couldn't make it past 3 albums with them before declining in popularity because Hollywood records doesn't know how to deal with their artists aging. Demi had success with the synergy of camp rock and Sonny with a chance and the Disney channel commercial breaks but you would kinda tell they were running out of steam by the time Selena started making music because it took a couple tries for her to get a number one album and most of her Hollywood records music was being pushed off of name recognition alone and her fans. Most modern Disney stars don't really make music but when they do they usually do it outside of Disney and Hollywood records like Olivia Rodrigo who signed with interscope and Joshua Bassett who signed with Warner music. The way Hollywood records is now is basically what is was pre Hilary. I think the highest charting album they solely released (because Demi's albums post 2013 were all released in collaboration with island records) in the past ten years was sometime last night in 2015 by R5 which was a band that Ross Lynch was the frontman of and it peaked at 6 on the billboard 200. It like many other Hollywood records albums coasted off the popularity of Ross lynch as a teen heartthrob instead of any actually good marketing and business moves

Olivia could have saved them, but she was too smart to release anything on that horrible label. :clap3:

Perhaps one of these girlies will pull a Sabrina Carpenter and randomly smash a decade from now. Who knows?

She sold 13 copies and sold only 24% capacity venues. She was actively destroying them.

Hollywood Records has always been a flop label created to keep control over ex acts who have any potential and influence. It's a way for Disney to extend control over their potential ex acts.

Hollywood Records is kind of a joke and way too closely connected with the Disney brand for big kids or adults to enjoy

They are a terrible label. Their only successful acts currently are Queen (obviously not thanks to them) and TINI (thanks to the Sony Music Latin joint promotion, not them)

the disney channel died and so did the label.
