What will happen when Taylor overtakes Madonna in SPS?

I made a screenshot of Chartmasters on Jan 1st 2024. She was at 186M. Now exactly 9 month later at 223M. 37M gain and i think the pure sales are not fully updated.

Streams are not sales.

Streams are only comparable to streams.

Taylor is The Music Industry, she doesn't need to be the Queen of Pop. And as for how the world will cope, you're already seeing some of the anticipated coping mechanisms displayed in this thread (streams ≠ sales, streams have better longevity, etc.):ryan3:.

The world will move on and no one outside of the little gay music bubble will give much of a ****. Your average cupcake Swiftie or your average mid-50s Madonna diehard probably will never come across that information, and if they did, I cannot imagine they would care. Now, over the next 50 years, I think we'll probably see Madonna transition into something like a Frank Sinatra type legacy act (extremely well known as a figure with a few lasting songs and then a few post-mortem diehard fans but not much... tangible presence) and Taylor transition into a Madonna type legacy act :ryan3:

They'll both be remembered as the two biggest female musicians in world history. Madonna was the trailblazer who paved the way - she walked so Taylor could run

The GP doesn't know what an SPS means :rip:

Alright, let's talk touring stats and concert attendance then, since that hasn't changed. Madonna's biggest tour to date didn't even manage to pull in a quarter of the Eras Tour's projected final gross. Taylor's U.S. leg alone outgrossed and out-attended it with just 60 shows. Why's that? So, maybe streams aren't inflating Taylor's numbers like you all say, if anything, they might be holding her back. :dies:

Oh, okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with Madonna.

You… go to your Pollstar, and you select… I don't know, those overinflated box office results, for instance, because you're trying to tell the world that your favorite artist has some kind of artistic merit just because she makes so much money. But what you don't know is that this is not just a concert, it's not a mere show, it's actually part of an entire industry—a multi-billion dollar industry that was revolutionized by one woman.

You're blissfully unaware of the fact that, in 1987, Madonna launched the *Who's That Girl Tour*, one of the first of its kind to fuse live music with high-concept staging, choreography, and fashion. And then, in 1990, she completely transformed the live touring experience with the *Blond Ambition Tour*. It wasn't just a concert; it was a global cultural event. And then we had *The Girlie Show*, *Re-Invention*, and *Sticky & Sweet*, which shattered records and set a new standard for what a world tour could be.

And then that influence—her innovation—echoed through the years, impacting not only ticket sales but the very way artists market themselves, build brands, and tour. It set the blueprint for every artist after her. So when you're looking at those ticket sales and claiming some sort of artistic supremacy for your favorite, what you fail to realize is that she's simply benefiting from a system Madonna helped create decades ago.
However, all of this represents millions of dollars, countless jobs, and an industry that continues to thrive because Madonna did it first. And it's almost amusing how you think this somehow exempts your artist from that legacy, when, in fact, she's just performing within a framework built by Madonna… curated for you from a legacy of innovation and dominance to be dumbed down to the masses where you fished your variant deluxe album from a pile of stuff...

Let's just say that each lady has its own reputation and singular trajectory that aren't interchangeable, records are meant to be broken anyway. Many people will consider Taylor a queen too, the audiences are renewed and she impacted a whole new generation at her own terms.

I know you are desperate.

But Nothing. Madonna is the one and only madonna.

Nothing will happen.

No female artist will ever touch Madonna.

Period.
