And as for how the world will cope, you're already seeing some of the anticipated coping mechanisms displayed in this thread (streams ≠ sales, streams have better longevity, etc.). The world will move on and no one outside of the little gay music bubble will give much of a ****. Your average cupcake Swiftie or your average mid-50s Madonna diehard probably will never come across that information, and if they did, I cannot imagine they would care. Now, over the next 50 years, I think we'll probably see Madonna transition into something like a Frank Sinatra type legacy act (extremely well known as a figure with a few lasting songs and then a few post-mortem diehard fans but not much... tangible presence) and Taylor transition into a Madonna type legacy act 1

Many people will consider Taylor a queen too, the audiences are renewed and she impacted a whole new generation at her own terms.
