Why did Pitchfork give 'Who You Are' by Jessie J a 2/10?

Especially when it had these pop classics on it? Like come on now.

The album might not be the best thing this planet has to offer but Pitchfork giving it a 2.0/10 is just nasty work.

Like when I see these outlandishly poor scored albums (a la 143), I truly wonder if people genuinely think it's that bad or if they are just trolling because they're easy targets lolz

The same reason why they gave Miley Cyrus & Her Best Album a 3.0. They're repulsive and hate strong bisexual female vocalists.

This is just how pop girls were treated before poptimism. A few managed to get ok reviews but critics would be especially harsh if the album wasn't super strong and or they found the artist to be at all manufactured. Read some of the weaker reviews for this album there's a bunch of stuff about her image and comparing her to other artists. It was more difficult for women to be respected in music back then. It doesn't helt that Who You Are is an average pop album, it's not a 2/10 though.

Right? It at least deserved a 2.5!

Imagine rating 2/10 an album that has this:

And yet Price Tag remains on heavy rotation at my go-to kebab place until this very day, so who really won in the end?

I mean... have you heard album tracks? A bunch of fillers whewww

But singles were 10/10 masterpieces, so they could've given a 6/10 due to strong singles attached

I don't think poptimism is a thing tbh. Like really compare pop albums 2017 onwards to the early 2010s era, sounds are so much richer now, songwriting is so much better. We got bops back then but it really was machine generated music.

I'm sure the review explains the score from the authors perspective

Because everything from Jessie J sounds like a demo. Outside of 'Abracadabra' and 'Domino', the album falls really flat and anyone could've sang those songs. JJ was also only 22 and pop music at the time was more fun while critics were being unnecessarily critical.

ok then why does animal have a 51 on metacritic and gag order has 75?

why does the fame have a 71 on metacritic and *checks notes* chromatica have a 79?

are we really saying that all things are equal here?
