Europe Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Quote Disney is in the middle of a new wave of cuts as part of a "cost-saving initiative". About 300 or so people are affected by the layoffs that started yesterday and are continuing today and tomorrow, with a possibility to stretch beyond that. The positions — all based in the U.S. — are across Disney's corporate operations, including legal, HR, finance and communications. Today's cuts follow the July 31 round of layoffs at Disney Entertainment Television when about 140 people were let go, and Disney animation studio Pixar reducing staff by 14% in May. https://deadline.com/2024/09/disney-layoffs-corporate-1236099769/comment-page-2/#comments
Iaintsorry Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Oh you know it's bad when even Disney is doing layoffs. The way Hollywood is imploding by the day
shoganai Posted September 26 Posted September 26 The evil mouse corp. is in crisis and we love to see it
Jack! Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Disney has both been quietly and loudly their employees for years. In 2019 when I worked at Epcot they cut the leadership and upper management team down by (I believe) about 50%. They're hitting employees at all angles, not just the creative jobs in Hollywood. I actually think Iger said to get around doing so they would just do a hire freeze for a few years but god knows what happened with that. It's a shame for these people livelihoods wherever they are in the company.

Disney hasn't been doing the numbers they used to for awhile now, relying heavily on older IP
