Sincere question: when is the right time for an artist to be "allowed to flop"?

Once they've cemented a legacy and a solid fan base… I'd say you need at least three "big" eras but that's not always the case.

Not everyone is going to be Lady Gaga or Taylor Swift or Beyoncé… success looks different for different artists.

A good barometer for success is touring power… (outside of a handful of acts like Mariah and Rihanna - both legends regardless)

How about not caring about charts in the first place?

Let me tell you that your fave's #1 is doing nothing for you. You're still a nobody.

I'm not really sure. I wanted to come up with excuses like the quality of music, impact, legacy, blah blah blah.... but yeah the reality is there will come a time that nobody will care about your work and you will be a has been. I guess most of the fans just need to accept that.

For me, I don't have to worry about my fave because it's literally impossible for Taylor to flop, even if she wants to. I mean..... at least not in this lifetime anyway. She's literally Laniakea that when she flops 99%, she will still be a milky way in comparison to other "legends" who are just in the Earth's Stratosphere.

Let's face it: our faves won't be on top forever and time has proven that music stars come and go throughout the years.

With that being said, at what point in their career do you tell to yourself that it's okay for your fave to "flop"?

i would say after a solid like 8 years of success it becomes ok to kinda start to fade. If you are already struggling by your 2nd or 3rd era then there's a problem. Obviously this rule only applies to commercial artists imo. If you are stanning an artist who makes unique or unconventional music then that does not apply to them and any bit of success is good enough for them but if your fav is making generic pop songs and still struggling early into their career then there is a major problem
