KatyPrismSpirit Posted September 26 Posted September 26 thats not what she said but its always a bummer if you put a lot of effort into making somgs ans videos and nothing seems to stick. 3
Popular Post SpaceOddity Posted September 26 Popular Post Posted September 26 Before people start throwing out dumb words like calculated and chart-obsessed, you have to realize that there's massive pressure behind the scenes from the people up high and the labels to bring them big numbers especially for artists who for an instance had their Without Mes and their Closers in the past. That's not to say there aren't many artists who care about number ones and good numbers to stroke their egos and whatnot, but it genuinely seems to me that the only reason Halsey keeps talking about this stuff lately is cause she keeps getting nagged hard into trying to score a hit and it's obviously taking a toll on her. 35 4
Saintlor Posted September 26 Author Posted September 26 (edited) It's sad because it seems to mean a lot to her and I feel like she's hurt by the underperforming music. Hopefully the album is as good as the last one and it will keep the fans very happy and she can hopefully get peace in that Edited September 26 by Saintlor 3
dejmieeen Posted September 26 Posted September 26 That's clever. The other Mediocrity should look and take a notes instead of forcing her bland music to Get #1s. 1 1 4
Saintlor Posted September 26 Author Posted September 26 I also am feeling like this next album may not be one of her best ones, and if her fans don't like it I hope it doesn't take too much of a toll on her.
MonsterNavy Posted September 26 Posted September 26 focusing on the entire album instead of just 1 smash hit is always better 5 3
Both Sides Now Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Seems like a pretty mature response. I'm not sure what happened to her career. I know IICHLIWP was an arts not charts but she used to bag some streaming hits pretty easily but now nothing is sticking. 2 1
KillingYourCareer Posted September 26 Posted September 26 She's very self-aware. May she let the music speak for itself!

I know IICHLIWP was an arts not charts but she used to bag some streaming hits pretty easily but now nothing is sticking. She only really had a huge fanbase during the Badlands era. I think with each subsequent release, her fan base got smaller. It was probably because she nailed the indie pop sound with that album, and people may feel like each following album was a bit more 'sellout' even though I liked them. The type of music of Hopeless Fountain Kingdom and Manic isn't the type of music that gets you or sustains a cult fan base Now she doesn't have a fan base to help her out when the singles don't smash Edited September 26 by Saintlor 1
AshleyLovescats887 Posted September 26 Posted September 26 I am really glad that Halsey doesn't worry too much about the charts, as they barely reflect what's good and what isn't. Personally 'The Great Impersonator' is one of my most anticipated albums of the year and I could care less about whether it has a GP hit or not. 4 1
AlbumOfTheYear Posted September 26 Posted September 26 (edited) *Laughs in Sky Ferreira* She should do it for the arts, not the charts. Edited September 26 by AlbumOfTheYear 1 1

I find it very interesting how Halsey doesn't get labelled "indie" yet she isn't labelled "mainstream" either, so she's in this juxtaposition void 2 1
Mocha Posted September 26 Posted September 26 (edited) usually, it's her pure pop songs that smash, Without Me, Be Kind and You should be sad being the latest examples. Her pop rock songs are my favorite but it seems like the newer gen and the GP aren't here for that sound. Did she even release any pure pop after Manic? I guess Lucky but we already practically heard the entire song from Britney's version 20 years ago. Edited September 26 by Mocha
Outlaws Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Well, they are terrible, so. Lucky was a fluke, sorry. 3 1 7

Halsey did talk about how Atticus and Trent didn't care about the charts, so the production on 'If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power' is a lot more experimental. It's poppiest song is 'Girl is a gun', but it wasn't promoted as a single or anything at all. The album's lead single was 'I'm not a woman, I'm a god' which had pop elements, but it was still rather alternative and not so GP friendly sonically, so it debuted at #64 on Billboard. Then she had 'You asked for this', which wasn't that promoted at all and wasn't GP friendly either. 'Lilith' got a SUGA remix for some computer game, but it didn't really do much on the charts at all. Honestly I'm kinda surprised that 'Ego' didn't pick up on the charts, especially after the VMAs, as that song felt pretty GP friendly, but the tasteless stay tasteless. 2

The production makes the song sound like it's from 2014. Especially the instrumental sound after she says "I think that I should try to kill my ego" Edited September 26 by Saintlor

The difference is that one got picked up by the GP, the other did not. Maybe one day people will see Halsey differently, but for now she remains to be an underrated icon 1 2
