itshyolee Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Because the way Xtina ate Sabrina up But honestly I can't name a new MPG who can go toe to toe or hold their own against an OG MPG vocalist. What are y'all thoughts (and prayers)? 1
LovingDays Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Yes. But unfortunately I don't think that's what this generation is looking for in music 5 1
visions Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Yes. It's simply not what the majority (pop) music consumers are looking for though rn. They'd rather have dissectible lyricism where the last gen MPGs lacked a bit honestly. In other news, Christina sounds absolutely incredible. She seems to have found a perfect level of showy vocals without taking it a bit too far 1
aotwbys Posted September 24 Posted September 24 yes. The newbies can't sing and that's a huuuge problem. The good vocals are few and far between. The music is cool but when they need to sing… Some K-Pop vocalists are lowkey better singers than people in the western music industry. Like we need to get some of these Korean kids out here to teach these people a lesson or two
Raphy23 Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Not when we have Tate. with the incredible vocal tone. You want belts? We have Chappel Roan. Smooth ariana/gwen type head voice. Sabrina Hypnotizing vibrato more big notes? Madison Beer 2 3

I low key hate how obsessed people are nowadays with "vibes" or lyricism instead of actual vocal talent. Album Leak Posted September 24 Posted September 24 This has been the case in pop music for a while now though, the last batch of talented singers (and one can argue whether they are actual vocalists or juyst singers) was way back in late 2000s and early 2010s. Been pretty quite since then, at least in pop music.
yonsé Posted September 24 Posted September 24 billie is RIGHT there. don't play in her face like that. 6
afterhoursxo Posted September 24 Posted September 24 There have been no MPG vocalists since Ariana unfortunately
єѕℓαм Posted September 24 Posted September 24 They might not be on the same level as Bey, Gaga or Adele but Sabrina and Chappell can SING
Julia Fox Posted September 24 Posted September 24 (edited) The other MPG generations had like three good vocalists at most what are you talking about? 90's: Mariah, Whitney, Celine 00's: Xtina and Bey 10's: Gaga, Adele, Ariana 20's: Chappell and Billie But also the other had way more terrible vocalists imo, like the girls now at least can sing live, like I can't name any of the new girls doing playback, only Tate but when she's dancing tf out of her so she can get away with it so I don't see the downgrade at all vocal-wise, in fact now talent is a real factor for the Gen Z to stan. They would never stan a Selena Gomez, Hilary Duff or Britney that can't hold a single note for the least challenging song ever. Edited September 24 by Julia Fox 4
XDNA Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Sabrina is a great singer, she didn't belt on WAGW to be respectful to Xtina. I loved Sabrina's approach. Not saying they're on the same level, but Sabrina, Billie, and Ariana are great singers/vocalists of this generation. 1

I dont understand this obsession to elevate kpop and completely hate western pop. When everything is worst and more mediocre in kpop, they lack more in everything. Really repetitive and recycle. Style over substance but worst and less genuine. 1

bad guy Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Billie is right there (and Ariana I guess but she's kinda in between the old and the new). 1
GraceRandolph Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Rebecca Black is the best vocalist of the Gen Z girls.
ChooseyLover Posted September 24 Posted September 24 This is a thread I thought of starting many times The answer is clearly yes, unfortunately. The people are just not interested in consuming all the vocal goodness that we were fed in the 90s and 2000s. So because of that we have incredible female voices that hold back because they know what the demand is. We should also talk about how the bar is even lower for male singers, it's actually insane. 2 1
Saint James Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Xtina's duets with Ariana Demi and Sabrina are all weird. Demi and Sabrina were unable to meet Xtina with runs and Xtina was messy singing Dangerous Woman. the younger girls aren't influenced by Mariah Whitney etc in the same way and that's fine. They are more influenced by a vocal like Lana Del Rey and it's showing.
landof0oo Posted September 24 Posted September 24 It's more about uniqueness of voice, good production and stellar songwriting/lyricism these days, as mentioned by another post. It's the Lana/Taylor blueprint and it sells! Imagine any of them being handed a mic without backing vocals or music next to bey xtina kelly gaga adele ari. That said, Chappell is one with a good voice though. Hope more newer, exciting vocalists come into prominence soon to give us life. 1
James_Joint Posted September 24 Posted September 24 I think the new pop girls are actually pretty talented? Chappell and Sabrina both sing well and have good breath control while doing moderate choreography, which works for them. Tate McRae's dancing gives her a pass, but even then, she sounds decent while singing and doing her choreo. Billie Eilish has proven herself as a vocalist. Honestly, not to sound like a hater because I like her, but Olivia Rodrigo has probably been the shakiest vocalist of the new girls, but even then, at least she writes and plays instruments. 1
jomarr Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Whenever Xtina duets with someone she always "EAT" them up because the other singer is not given the chance to actually do something. Case in point, that video with Sabrina Carpenter. To answer your question, Chappel Roan and Sabrina are literally there. And if vocalist we mean actual good singing voice and not just belting, literally Tate McRae, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish are there. For later Millennials, there's Dua Lipa. Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande.
