Crazy to think 3 of the most influential pop artists were at their artistic peak so close to each other

Will we ever have another quality trinity release like that? Have we gotten close to it yet?

These albums shaped the first few months I had a drivers license.

There was something in the air in 97/98.

Music has not been as good since.

A holy trinity. All three of them set the standard for peaking artistically well beyond years of significant commercial success. Legends only.

There truly was something else about the mid-late 1990s (1995-1998). A very peculiar and once-in-a-lifetime phase in music.

that's three incredible classics within 5 months :clap3:

lest we forget that within those five months, there were also the releases of The Lonesome Crowded West, Homogenic, Impossible Princess, Dots & Loops, and Portishead's self-titled album

there was something in the air back then for sure :jonny3:

This is what's missing from the pop landscape today. The most recent class of mainstream pop stars aren't really evolving or going out on (musically) creative limbs anymore. And the ones who do, sadly, don't have the talent to pull it off.

Worth noting these are all these artists 4th-7th albums. The recent class is really just getting started. 4th/5th albums tend to be an artistic turning point for most pop acts.

Sorry, mistyped. I meant "classes." Mid-to-late 2000s to now.

Also 'Share My World' by Mary J. Blige was released in 1997 as well which is one of the greatest R&B albums of all time.

1997 was truly the year of artistic expression and honesty through music. The new crop of artists aren't that innovative or forward thinking IMO.

Something tells me Billie Eilish hasn't reached her artistic peak

Everyone saying there was something in the air in the 90s aint lying

My time were the 00s, 2010s and 2020s partly but the music in the 80s and 90s was just on a whole other level

The 2024 loose equivalents to these legendary albums being HMHAS, Brat and Short N Sweet :rip: Downgrade is an understatement

Erykah's Baduizm also came in 1997. Björk's Homogenic came right after Mariah's Honey. And obviously, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill came in 1998. Crazy.

Also the fact that all 3 were their 7th albums and their career best to this day

And let's not forget Impossible Princess that was released in October 1997.

A body image of a young woman (Kylie Minogue) inside a cut cone with multi-coloured lights. From top: Purple, blue, mid-purple/blue, oranges and red. The woman is wearing a small blue mini dress with detail on the top left, whilst the floor has a reflection of the cone.

I am not sure what were they using during that time, but the absolute slayage.:wanda:

I can't help but think the music landscape of the time was heavily influenced by the Lilith Fair scene.

I think the closest we ever got to this again was back in 2016 :jonny6:the slayage
