ChandlerBing Posted September 23 Posted September 23 MJ was very hated after a huge peak, similar to Katy. 9
A-V-XYZ Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Once Katy finally wins a Grammy, then you can compare her to Michael Jackson. 6 2

B-Luke Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Katy Perry is mimicking an unemployment-like career shift right now 1
Erreur2 La Nature Posted September 23 Posted September 23 One changed her hair color and the other one his skin color too ! 1

Aden Posted September 23 Posted September 23 I mean, didn't Katy once on American Idol kiss an underage bo-... never mind 1
Jack! Posted September 23 Posted September 23 (edited) Not really, no. I understand the trajectory of Michael's career did change in his later years, but if you look at where Katy is now, 16 years into her career vs. where Michael was 16 years into his "pop" career (if you want to take it from Off the Wall instead of all the way back), he was still getting top 10 hits. Sugar-Rush Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Nah even Michael managed to have some success even when his career was literally dead, not just metaphorically 2
Brooklyn Baby Posted September 23 Posted September 23 I was gonna say something but I got muted for saying something similar a while back so let me not
Fayik Posted September 23 Posted September 23 (edited) Honestly, MJ never really had a flop album. His massive albums were such a phenomenon that his "underperforming" albums look like a flop when that's just not true. Britney, at her peak in 2001, sold 7 million copies of her self titled album (huge smash!) and Invincible, released at the same time, with only one single and horrible press at the time and almost no promotion, sold 8 million worldwide but was titled a flop…Just to show a comparison. even his HIStory album sold 25 million copies worldwide in 1995 and that was a double CD! People like to compare those albums to Thriller but selling 25 million copies literally still puts his 1995 album in the best selling albums of all time list…. If that's my flop era, I'd take it. Big Bad Wolf Posted September 23 Posted September 23 She's mimicking more of a Christina Aguilera like career. Big debut, big sophomore album, successful third album with a couple of sure fire hits, to total flopping and irrelevancy. Maybe this means Katy will be successful again in 2034.
skankle Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Yes, thus 143 is as big a crime as child molestation.
