Should Katy retire from music post-143 era?

I think it's time for Katy to really consider whether she wants to be an artist or not. This obviously is the biggest bomb in human history and I think once the promotion ends for the era, she should retire and ride off into the sunset with her hot husband. The good thing is that the tour tickets will be super cheap at least, she's cute for a throwback like a Ciara now.

She herself said this is what she was born for in the VMAs and I believe her, so no: I don't think she should retire.

But she should work harder for sure.

That's the key. This is obvious that her career as a POP STAR is dead. She would have to dig very deep and tap into some artistry if she wants any type of commerical viability ever again. Whether she has the self-awareness or drive to do that is up in the air. She got too comfortable being a household name and really just thought she could ride that wave forever surrounded by yes men, and hopefully this is the wake up call that she needs.

I don't think so, but I do hope she takes this and pivots her musical direction.

She just needs to apologize for working with Dr. Luke and make better music. It's Katy we're talking about so idk if she's able.

She retired in Vegas.

No, her next album should be a palette-cleansing acoustic one, and the one after that should be super experimental for the hell of it. No more basic stuff though

How would that be different from now

So, at this point, Katy has 2 choices ahead of her.

1. Completely reinvent herself, image/era/music wise, experiment and risk a lil bit, do her own thing instead on relying on safe hollow label-fed boring ass-bubblegum happy-go-lucky pop songs with no substance , show a new and original part of hers instead of that decades on repeat shtick and kick Luke out, GP are more awake now to fake ****

2. If she doesn't want to kick Luke out due to personal connection, interest,  move on or evolve and wants to play it safe and fake pop forever, step on trendy artists to get ahead, it's best to retire in dignity and be a soundtrack pop star that pulls out movie soundtrack songs for american movies or do voice acting or something, she's got a family, she got coin till the end of days, she's established, end of the line

She needs to leave planet unbothered, go on hiatus for a couple years so people forget this bomb, then come back with a clean house, new producers, and work like she's still trying to hit it big. The good will is there, the GP won't remember this after a little while and with the right kind of pr campaign. In 2027 people will want fun pop music again and she can swoop in with something fresh. But the most important step here is leaving planet unbothered and becoming bothered so she does some self reflection.

Over 40 may be a death curse for the charts, but it's not the end of your career. :rip: look at Madonna, Cher, Streisand, Pink, McCartney, Sade, etc. they don't chart on your precious Spotify, yet they happily make music and flop on the charts.

She'll be following Rita Ora's path. Masked Singer let's go :duca:

She's not successful and respected like Namie Amuro to pull a retirement and go out with a bang.

I feel like 143 was a step in the right direction ditching her whole "cringey" image but she's still not seen as cool. Next step for her should be releasing a GOOD conceptual album, more on the experimental side, and yea, working with an entire new team.

Women (and artists in general) don't need permission to release music!!!

Real question... if she stopped releasing music, what would ATRL be obsessing over??? Seems like it's only thing getting hit threads and keeping the lights on with these shirty servers.

If I say I was born to be a millionair...does that suddenly make it true? :suburban:

OT: yeah it's time she pack it up. Her gig is far past stale

I know right! You would think they'd want more singles, and maybe a re-release. Instead they want her to retire and stop all their fun?? Doesn't add up.

What gig? She just had the best performance at the VMA's and had a great Rock n Rio concert that was all about her.

Katy will always be able to make a comeback. It's just about the choices she's makes.

The route back to the top will take a while. I agree that her next move should be something totally different. The folklore route isn't a bad one. She should focus on her songwriting and maybe release a mixtape which pushes her creativity without the pressure of commercial success.

KCats, you have to wake up to the fact that the 2014 days are reversed now, music-artist wise.

Commercial viability and playing it safe doesn't work anymore, people want provocative, risque, experimental, original, engaging, conceptual, controversial,  actually artistic, they want to be put outside of their comfort zone, they are hungry of it.

That's why more people are waking up to the fact that ARTPOP was ahead of their time, you are now feeling what the LM's were feeling, but instead your artist is not helping you at all, just doesn't even try and is surrended by yes men and label-fed produced songs, voting republican while she queerbaits the *** out of you and use fake ass stan terminology.

GG throughout her supposed "floppage", risked a lot, she was on the verge of artistic death but she retained her creative energy and freedom tooth and nail, while people, media, the GP and a lot of fan bases (yours included) were mocking her and her fanbase, while previous manager and team members were actively betraying her, she managed to survive, come out on top and be vindicated.

Release an album with the sound of Thinking Of You, Cindy Lauper's Time After Time and a few NRO/TD/Perrie's 'Forget About Us' type nostalgic pop songs, with lyric maturity ironically like her earlier work when she was younger (a complete 180 from the tragedy that is the lyrical content of 143), and with the songs having proper bridges and not (dr.)lukewarm productions.
