It literally boggles my mind that she chose to work with him. With cancel culture these days, it's not surprising she's in this spot.

Tone deaf, ignorant.  Not sexy, confident.

Oh stop. The commercial performance has nothing to do with Dr. Luke. Even if she didn't work with him her brand is irrelevant and she would've flopped. What, you think had Dr. Luke not been onboard but she made a dance-pop album with another producer she would've smashed? She flopped with Smile and Witness and it had nothing to do with Dr. Luke. It's not like she was smashing and smashing and then worked with Dr. Luke and bombed. She has been over and irrelevant since 2020 when she started not being able to chart.

Agreed but why so pressed sis?

The thing is, most of the pop standom was excited about her comeback, which could've helped to build overall hype and at least a semi-solid base that would've streamed her instead of making this album roll-out THE ruthless laughing stock of the decade. Maybe she wouldn't have smashed, of course, but this massive tanking esp. in the poptimism era definitely leads back to the involvement of Dr. Luke - and let's not even get into his "artistic input" with his tired lame beats and abhorrent production which further cemented this nuclear BOMB.

Girl that is absolutely not true. Her online momentum evaporated when his involvement was announced. He also gave her sh*tty music so his contribution to her floppery is not just the association. This is generally, largely, his fault.

As for Witness and Smile, those records did better without Dr Luke than this is doing with him. CTTR and NRO were legitimate hits, at the very least "moderate", and Harleys is killing it on streaming. She could have gotten another one of those (or several), if she hadn't alienated all pop fans with a moral highground and hadn't released dated music with tone-deaf visuals. It's over now, but I don't believe for a second it was over 3 months ago. Katy Perry was not doomed. Which makes her Luke return all the more frustrating.

I have to agree. There was a path to at least moderate success considering how her catalogue had a massive ressurgence these past couple of years. Had she released a quality bop + mv combo like Never Really Over, without the Dr. Puke association, she could've gotten a hit.

Miley got a hit, Shakira got a hit, the list goes on. We are in the most pop girl friendly environment of music consumption since like 2011.

This had everything to do with the awfull music and catastrophic PR. The decisions that went into are mind-boggling. Like I still can't wrap my head around what they were thinking here.

Poor Katy Perry.

This is what you get when you make crappy music. She's been on a roll with the terrible music since Witness.

You would think that after 2020 she would've learned her lesson, instead she ran to Dr. Luke and released more awful music.

She's getting what she deserves, honestly.

I know a lot of people don't want to admit it but the real reason the music flopped is because of how terrible it is, not Luke himself. Yeah i know that a lot of the excitement around her comeback disappeared online the minute it was announced Luke was on the project but the GP as a whole unfortunately wouldn't have cared if the music was indeniably good. This is not me defending Katy, it's just reality. The GP is truly what makes a hit at the end of the day, not stan twitter/pop forums (otherwise Taylor Swift wouldn't be the biggest star in the world right now). And the GP couldn't care less about things like that, especially in a country that could possibly elect Trump again :rip:

You do realize 143 literally just came out right? It's absolutely not normal for Reputation to outstream it already after only 3 days:rip:

Katy is flopping even harder than i thought she would :rip:

Yes the material is just subpar and she needed way more to win the gee pee back. We saw high budget visuals and marketing but the music is not comeback-y worthy.

You're right. The online sphere of more heavy music followers is obviously very turned off and disappointed by the Dr Luke name attachment. However if the music was actually good, GP would've been clinged on no matter what. The biggest issue here is the music is BAD.

She needs a total sonic and image overhaul.
