Sometimes i'll watch these 2 music reviewers that are not Anthony Fantano. Sometimes i'll watch them and then sometimes i'll watch him.
Spectrum Pulse does a really good billboard breakdown and i like it because if Selena doesn't epically flop he is forced to review it.
Then i'll watch ARTV because well, he did a bad*ss thing adding Camouflage to his 5 surprisingly good ballads list. And he gave Love Sux a mixed to negative review which i really respect. You know?

ARTV has taste.

usually they're a good indication of the quality of an artists output. especially if, said artist, has been on the decline for quite some time now.

For me - never. I saw movies, listened to albums, and played video games that had bad reviews by these random people, but I ended up liking them. :cm:

Is this deflection? :thing:

No, and it's funny how they started to matter once a cerTain artiSt started to be acclaimed for her works.

Now that she was destroyed maybe her fandom should change the narrative again.   :gaylorcat2:

In all honesty, no, not at all. No one ever cares about reviews outside of people who stan/hate the artist/movie/game

cerTain artiSt was always acclaimed and ended up on year end lists before poptimism was a thing and was actually credited for the rebirth of it.

Also aren't you being a bit Radically Optimistic that a 72 score is "getting destroyed"?

i follow them in recent years and they are just like ATRL comments,

someone has personal beef or internal struggle with something and they use reviewing as space for them to release the frustration,

sometimes they are paid and overpraise literal crap

i rarely agree with them, but also im sure theres someone that disagrees with us, so i see them as fun, id never take them serious

It's the only way to separate the "arts" from the "charts". Reviewers are supposed to be unbiased and even though reviews are still subjective, the aggreggate of many of them should give a good assesment of the quality of the piece of work

I think they're becoming increasingly meaningless. Everyone with a camera and a TikTok account can review an album nowadays.

Official print-and-digital publications are no longer the taste-makers deciding what's cool.

To my personal listening habits? No. I don't care.

For an artist themselves it depends on the artist. Y'all are focused on the mainstream why would they care about the reviews when they move millions of units? Someone who isn't commercial and relys on a niche fanbase that is more often than not music nerds, they're going to be impacted by good reviews and good scores more than a commercial act.

And to leave it on this note since everybody likes to beat around the bush, the reasons critics are taken seriously is pretty simple. When you want an opinion on the best hamburger are you going to trust the person whose only had Wendy's and McDonald's or the person who has sampled burgers up and down the list? Some people simply have a wider range of knowledge to formulate an opinion (but still, opinions are still biased,so ultimately circle back to my first sentence) which is why it's appreciated more than "anybody with a keyboard".
