AmericanIdol Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Are reviews important? I don't think they are, art is subjective and it involves a personal expedition interacting with the music/art form. I give Katy's album new album, 143, a 10/10 though. 1 1 1
A Million Lights Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Not really. The gp is here for Katy and that's what matters 1 2 3

Strawberry Bubble Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Yes, if the reviews favor my favorite artist. No, if the reviews don't favor my favorite artist. 1

KatyPrismSpirit Posted September 20 Posted September 20 I don't think critic reviews are of much importance because they don't necessarily reflect to the success of the music, generally speaking. Just look at Morgan Wallen. His album got a 45/100 on Metacritic and the album he dropped last year is already on its way to go Diamond and spend 19 weeks at #1. Albums that get a lot of acclaim (which is nice obviously) from big publications don't necessarily get success out of it, nor does it translate into critical success at for example award seasons.

burninredhot Posted September 20 Posted September 20 When it's an album I dislike = yes When it's an album I love = no 1
Uncatena Posted September 20 Posted September 20 yes, art critique is essential. if you cannot deal with art you like not being liked by others, you need to reflect on why you like the thing in the first place. 3 1
bielneira Posted September 20 Posted September 20 It is a thermometer, but it's just someone's opinion like we all have ours.

Summerboy95 Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Not really. But when your fave releases music associated with a rapist because she wants to relive her peak, watching her failing to do so is such a euphoric experience, like being under the spell of a drug that captivates your senses. Reviews are important to this case because they work like ammunition to prove how over and sad were Katy's career choices.
makeme Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Yes of course. Think of it in the context of reviews in general. When are you looking for a new restaurant on google you are likely to check the reviews. Bad reviews may keep you from visiting certain establishments. This goes across the board. A music critic gives an album a bad review it creates bad press/PR for the album. This can snow ball into more bad reviews. Spoiler Sorry I work in marketing and respond to reviews all day

Quality is not about commercial success, and commercial success does not reflect quality in any degree. 2
