GiftFromGod Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Hit singles are the biggest indicators of a successful era. Is it possible for an era to be successful even if it produced no hits?
Aston Martin Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Depends. If the era doesn't produce any top 40 singles but has amazing recurrent stats for years after its release, then it's_a_hit.jpeg 11 3

EnigmaticAndroid Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Yeah. Mr Morale and the Big Steppers didn't have any real hits but was absolutely a successful album. Went #1, spent 82 weeks on the BB200, has solid sales, and was pretty acclaimed (even if it didn't get the rapturous response Kendrick's other albums have gotten). 7
Digitalism Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Yes but chances are they will be forgotten in long run unless they were super acclaimed.
gustavothehuman Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Context is important. An artist with 30 years of career will not fare as well as one with 5 for example.
Kiss It Better Posted September 20 Posted September 20 BTD and Brat have no hits yet both are successful eras, especially the former 1
LadyDiana Posted September 20 Posted September 20 I like Mariahs Caution era and it had 0 hits. It depends 1 1
bielneira Posted September 20 Posted September 20 First, we need to separate an era from albums and singles. An era include both, and more. So I only consider an era successful, if everything was successful for the artist's standards. One example, 'brat' is a successful era, but TTPD isn't. On the other hand, 'Midnights' was a successful era. 2 2 1

BrokenMachine Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Yes, if the album ends up being one of the top selling/streamed of that year. Also if the recurrent streams are fine. Album stats >>> singles stats

In what word TTPD isn't a success? 2.61 million debut 15 weeks at #1 Whole top 14 on billboard hot 100 Other high profile releases this year like HMHAS, Cowboy Carter haven't reached first day total units of TTPD yet. 2
poki Posted September 20 Posted September 20 The truth is all that matters is if you were able to repay the money invested into you and then some.
Onyxmage Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Absolutely, it pretty much defines the careers of most Alt-pop girls. Look at artists like Lana, Melanie, Marina, Grimes etc. 1
