It's a bad album and I agree with its current metacritic score. For me, it's not a 0/10 and I think the discourse should be more nuanced.

I think that's the biggest issue. Katy has shown hints of trying other styles of pop on earlier albums but she's never committed. Every time she comes back, it's to make trivial, one-note pop/dance music, and it's getting worse every time. She should be trying to make songs more along the lines of like....Spiritual right now. Something that demonstrates SOME growth.

 

I think she's run out of chances at this point. She will always just be that woman who briefly dominated pop in the early 2010s. And that's it.
