Katamari Posted September 23 Posted September 23 36 minutes ago, Ryan said: Ego and audacity is the reason this project has been panned and ill-received. Woman's World was rejected and panned. That was the first sign that maybe changes should have been made. I like Katy Perry, I own all of her albums. I think she can be a phenomenal artist when she wants to be. Yes she made pop perfection with Teenage Dream and Prism, but IMO some of her best work came from NOT working with Dr. Luke. Personal disdain from that awful accused rapist aside, if they came together and made a descent project I'd be like "Whew, *****, working with him is nasty work but the songs are good." That did not happen. Every artist has moments where they stumble. This is her Britney Jean. I hope in the future she focuses more on being the artist we know she can be and less on a gimmicky facade trying to recreate the energy of past hits with disastrous misfires. if she wanted to relive the glory days she needed bonnie more than luke
Gossip_Boy Posted September 23 Posted September 23 The last time pitchfork gave someone a 0 was nearly 20 years ago. They've become way too soft, so I wouldn't bet on it. I guess we'll see.

wastedpotential Posted September 23 Posted September 23 2 minutes ago, TaylorNation said: can one review really lower it that much? Well no (though this will knock it by at least a point), but my thinking is that if this score is as bad as it is then others will be worse. In my head, the Telegraph was a 2/5, and since it's come in at 1/5, I'm reevaluating where everyone else is going to land at this point. 1

It's possible that Perry is doing the same thing she's always done—now maybe with less ease, less joy—but the culture has shifted in such a way that it feels stilted, muddled, stale. Whether it's her or us—I don't know if it matters. As Perry once bellowed during the triumphant, perfect chorus of "Teenage Dream": "Don't ever look back, don't ever look back!" 1
BrattyBottom Posted September 23 Posted September 23 I would really like to see this land at 24. Such a beautiful number.
suburbannature Posted September 23 Posted September 23 The New Yorker https://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultural-comment/with-143-katy-perry-is-no-longer-in-on-the-joke Quote With "143," Katy Perry Is No Longer In On the Joke The artist once made songs that were dexterous and funny. Her latest album includes tracks that sound like they should be in the background of a deodorant commercial. 4
