Kylie Minogue - 'Tension II'

Are these 9 new songs actually "new", or are they leftovers from T1? Or is it a mixture of old and newly recorded ones? I seem to remember the title Someone Like You floating around last year during Kyliegate…

I swear some posters don't even listen to Kylie they just circlejerk about leaks and outtakes. :rip: 9 new songs were released a few days ago but they haven't spoken about any of them, only the ones that aren't available. Like do you even listen to her or just stare at lists all day

"Kiss Bang Bang" is my personal favourite. I'd prefer it to be the next single over "Someone for me". I also enjoy "Shoulda Left Ya" and "Taboo" a lot (which reminds me of Abba). The lyrics of "Good as Gone" are interesting as Kylie doesn't atypically do a bitter lyric but she does on that and it ends up being a strength of the song. Everything is pleasant to listen to. I wish there were three more solo tracks (as opposed to the collabs which I suspect are tacked on for streaming/ metric purposes).

I actually quite like how Kylie has rolled out Tension II to be honest.

She hasn't hidden the fact that it was supposed to be a reissue for T1 and I think that it wouldn't be as marketable to the GP if it was just a deluxe for an already year old album, especially since she decided to tour the era to the extent that she's doing (i.e. NA, Asia, etc). By packaging it as a new album, she's given it a certain momentum and attention that a reissue just wouldn't give in my eyes.

Also, as for the tracks, we still got 9 new tracks? Sure, a lot of people wouldn't really care for the collabs but its at the end of the digital tracklist for a reason. They aren't bad either. Bar MOM and the Sia track they're actually pretty good. I like to think that to get away from just rehashing Padam Padams and Tension title tracks (which a lot of you pessimistic lot would also just bash as a plain money grab anyway), TII kinda has everything that a Kylie album has been in recent years? It's got club bangers (LCA, Hello, KBB, SFM), some with more Disco elements (GAG, DTTM), and even some country influence with MR.

Finally, I too am sad that some of the T1 outtakes didn't make it but maybe that's because some hags leaked the majority of them last year? Just a thought. I doubt Kylie wants to put songs that have been spoiled onto an official studio album. Let the girl have fun with newer camp material! You can still listen to the outtakes on your own as well as the official 29 tracks this double era has given us.

I know it's a bit pointless and ironic of me saying this on ATRL of all places but, and I say this lovingly, some people here really need to get a life and stop complaining about every single detail unnecessarily. You have 9 new tracks and one of your faves is going on a massive world tour next year to promote it! Sure, discussing it and giving criticism is great, and I'm not saying to blindly love everything. I love lurking on here and reading everything because I'm an insufferable gay as well, but its nice to just appreciate that Kylie has really been in her stride these last few years with Golden, Disco, and the Tension albums, which are of a really high quality.

I noticed a lot of her fandom on ATRL and YouTube are like this. It's kinda funny how much they complain about the smallest things :deadbanana:

I loved Kylie since I was a kid and first heard the Fever album, and keep up with her music over the decades. But never got into her fandom hardcore, kinda cuz of this reason. Lol

I feel like Tension II is a lot safer than the first one.

But also at the same time, the original Tension was meant to be safe anyway.

So it's kind of this weird thing where Tension I has a bit more originality, but Tension II is what Tension I probably should have been in the first place.

Most people have said Tension I got tired on them very fast minus a few tracks and I think it's because it leant to heavily into the 80's camp spin it was trying to do to be different,/ and it should have just been the bop album it needed to be.

Kylie wanted some new bops to tour with and that's all it needed to be.

I'm kinda let down with this album. I hate how most of these songs are so short with no bridge & the lights camera was such a weak single. Only song i really like was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. I just wish it was longer i want a video

What a disappointing sequel to Tension, it is the Padam Padam sound over and over and over again, i was like, enough Kylie, stop! Tension worked because there was one Padam Padam, and the rest were cute '80s inspired bops. I hope for the tour she just does one song from this creatively bankrupt album and focuses on a playlist similar to her Vegas residency.

That's why it is always poison when an artist gets a hit, they try to replicate it ad nauseum. She had so many amazing unreleased demos from Tension, but she was like, nope let me do Padam Padam 11 times.

Oh and Taboo was inspired by Britney's Toxic, like gurl where?? You passed by Toxic darling and forgot to take something.

but when Tension came out, the biggest criticism was that it wasn't cohesive and that people wanted more Padam-like songs, she is simply giving people want they want. and a LOT of these songs would work much better in a live setting than something like Hands.

I listened through this rather quickly, so my judgment might be a bit rushed, but this just isn't very good is it?

I adore her but i'm taking this as it is: a cute, fun release to support the tour and make fans happy. I enjoy a good amount of the songs but i'm not super impressed by this piece of work.

Extended Digital Edition

To say it dramatically falls short of expectations is an understatement. I'm in shock.

I need to hear these!!! But I want it in its own separate album ala Extension. :noparty:

Ok let's see if these are better than Extension (which lowkey sucked)

LCA Extended is a yes wbk

Taboo extended bit of a boring instrumental intro. The mixing on this seems to have sucked the life out of it... hm

SFM extended intro way better, song finally breathes and the new mini-drop makes a nice dance break

GAG extended - I could listen to a 20 minute version of this song so this is cute, the bridge gets a proper explosion at the end

it was at this point I compared the wave forms of both the normal versions and extended and realised the extendeds sound so much thinner because they're not mastered so they're missing some compression and saturation.

KBB extended - yes god this is so good and the post-chorus instrumental extension actually sounds like a real club mix but they could've dragged it out even further by peeling back each layer and then bringing the verse back in, it could've been at least 5 minutes. It finally gets a proper ending to truly rip off every section of Padam Padam!

Diamonds extended - I wish it didn't start with the da da da. The vocals sound really dry compared to the album version. The first instrumental bit is cute and fits in well, but the second verse one is so jarring. The bridge is a mess buildup and rug pull omg. Missed opportunity. Stream the album version twice cause it loops perfectly!

Hello extended is exactly what you'd expect given how much of the song is instrumental anyway and I'm back to throwing ass. The buttery second verse is lowkey a highlight of the extended album so far, they mixed this so clean.

DTTM extended is kind of funny because real disco long form mixes would never build this haphazardly, but her vocals are audible (proof that her vocal engineering / self recording is NOT the issue some people have) & the rhythm guitar in the chorus is a lot more prominent here. They kinda shake up the structure creatively so I endorse it.

Edge extended we've all heard already, just a standard dj extended, song is still a 10 ofc.

shoulda left ya was utterly butchered, don't waste your time.

Anyway now we can delete My Oh My, Midnight Ride & Dance Alone and still call it a 40 minute album at least.
