Filing Lawsuit for Infringement of Patent Rights against Pocketpair, Inc.

Nintendo Co., Ltd. (HQ: Kyoto, Minami-ku, Japan; Representative Director and President: Shuntaro Furukawa, "Nintendo" hereafter), together with The Pokémon Company, filed a patent infringement lawsuit in the Tokyo District Court against Pocketpair, Inc. (HQ: 2-10-2 Higashigotanda, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, "Defendant" hereafter) on September 18, 2024.

This lawsuit seeks an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages on the grounds that Palworld, a game developed and released by the Defendant, infringes multiple patent rights.

Nintendo will continue to take necessary actions against any infringement of its intellectual property rights including the Nintendo brand itself, to protect the intellectual properties it has worked hard to establish over the years.

Well if GameFreak was smart they would sue and take all the mechanics and aspects people love of Palworld and incorporate them into the new Pokémon Game. But they won't. :coffee2:

Nintendo would find a reason to sue an orphan cancer patient on their last day if it was possible.

I feel like they waited for the hype to die down so they'd get less negative reception for doing this.

Everyone saw this coming but they chose to fly too close to the sun anyway. :toofunny3:

It's interesting its a patent lawsuit, not copyright.

That implies tech, design, and features. It isn't just similarity of characters.

Still less evil than what the other party did. They literally took their designs and altered them a bit thinking they'd get away with it. There's no way possible this could be spun against Pokemon & co.

They are pulling an Al Capone on them. I would feel bad if it wasn't A.I. slop.

They need to make a good new Pokemon game period, but I don't think Palworld was revolutionary or something to take note of for them by any means. It really was just a fad game

Palworld was so good tho if pokemon did a game like that on PC. Not everyone can be bothered with the switch

This is coming from a pokemon fan since pokemon yellow.

We stand with Nintendo. :clap3:

Good. I'm usually not a supporter of litigation, but many of the "Pals" were so blatantly rip-offs of Pokemon designs that I'm surprised the Palworld developers thought they could get away with it. BTW teas :eli:

Interesting. I never played Palworld since it wasn't on switch. I knew it was somewhat similar with some blatant rip-off monsters but idk about the other mechanics.
