I hope we hear them eventually, sounds like they were totally different then she re-recorded 1
xokuba Posted November 14 Author Posted November 14 I would like to hear the original productions too. Hopefully they will come along the way during this era 3
GwennyGwenGwen Posted November 14 Posted November 14 (edited) oh this is gorgeoussss...so cohesive, and such a great sound for her, and her voice sounds spectacular. If you're looking for big pop moments, you're definitely going to be disappointed...it feels like being in oklahoma with her in front of a bonfire jamming out with a few musicians...some of the pacing of the songs are a bit odd and feel almost slightly unfinished?...i think the jam session-y vibe works better on some songs and moments than others, but overall a beautiful body of work. I wouldn't say it's an album that has huge highlights or lowlights, it all very much works together...but i think my favs after first couple listens are Late to Bloom, Bouquet, and Empty Vase...and the only one that isn't really connecting with me yet is Reminders. I's say if you're a No Doubt fan and need an intro to help you get past the cowboy hat, try Late to Bloom...but honestly there is tons of classic deep cut No Doubt-y melodies throughout. mathekr Posted November 14 Posted November 14 It's not bad but incredibly bland and samey. Heard it once and have no desire to come back to it tbh. 3 1
fulgadrum Posted November 14 Posted November 14 the album is incredibly one-note (somebody else's is the only black sheep here, everything else is about being obsessed with blake shelton). i'm really over this for gwen; i'm happy she's happy, but there's gotta be more for her to say in her position and legacy. really thought reminders would be about the past/ND/her career or something. anyway, the title track is stuck in my head and all your fault is like, one of the few songs that doesn't feel suuuuuuuper compressed. she needs tony back in the studio. i like the album, but i think it's her weakest offering in terms of theme and writing. some good moments, but overall kinda ho-hum. i don't think it will make any impression on the GP 1
memo90061 Posted November 14 Posted November 14 I heard it and I'm a little dissapointed... I've never been a "hater," but I don't know... I'm not complaining about the sound. I'm obsessed with "Somebody Else's"! It's amazing! I just feel like most songs lack a bridge and are lacking something... So far my favorites are Somebody Else's, Bouquet, Marigolds and maybe Reminders. The others are missing something for me or feel very bland.
GwennyGwenGwen Posted November 14 Posted November 14 (edited) i think what is going to make me really love this album in the long run is just how it feels absolutely exactly like who she is right now, for better and/or worse from a fans perspective (obviously for better in her life!)...its just like, if you took who we've seen the past few years and put it into an album...this feels like exactly what you'd get...which for some that miss the artist they fell in love with, is a disappointment, totally understandably...but for me, that is actually what does make it feel really special...listening to Bouquet feels like catching up with an old friend and realizing they are so different, and a lot of the things you thought were so unique and special about them aren't as present as they once were, and kinda coming to terms with that...but in the process realizing that it's the purity of who she is and how she shares who she is with the world that has always been the real connection and thing that bound you to this person...and that's there as much as ever imo, and this time, she gets to fully enjoy it too. I think the end of this article kinda sums up exactly what this album feels like tbh Gwen Stefani is still the queen of heartbreak (even while married to Blake Shelton) | The Independent "Shiny and chic her newest output is not. But if we are to take Stefani not as an incredibly radical pop star and more one of music's greatest vessels of heartache, it is the ending she always deserved. She finally has the simple kind of life she's wanted for nearly three decades, one devoid of the drama that fuelled such transcendent music, but also brought her years of pain. If anyone deserves uncomplicated love with a man who worships her, it's the woman who spent years so openly pining for it." Edited November 14 by GwennyGwenGwen 6 2

Hector Posted November 14 Posted November 14 A nice adult contemporary album. I'm glad it's more soft pop rock than country. Not her best album but very pleasant to listen to, particularly in the Fall and Winter seasons. 1
vipanonymous Posted November 14 Posted November 14 I really hope she doesn't become like P!nk. All her releases after Funhouse were soccer mom oriented, maybe not Beautiful Trauma, but the rest is garbage. I'm all here for her finding her new sound the problem is everything revolves around Blake, it's like she lost her originality. Truth was about Gavin but still had Gwen moments while Bouquet is a blind love letter to Blake. 3
Innocencelost Posted November 15 Posted November 15 this is such an unexpected solid record!!! good job Gwenny Gwen Gwen
Ewan Chaos Posted November 15 Posted November 15 I like this more than I expected! Not like those people who expected this to be a country album, I just felt like nothing gripped me from the first two singles. As I was listening, I feel like this has the opposite problem I have with Truth. To me, that album is such a mixed bag filled with STRONG songs that I immediately gravitated to, but the songs I disliked I still dislike and I find them quite bad. I'd say Bouquet is decent at worst, but at best just good and nothing's really gripping me much... at least not yet. First listen, Marigolds is probably my favorite too. The middle section was the most enjoyable. This would be great background music, like to put on while cleaning your house, which I find myself saying this both as a complement and an insult lowkey The music's good, but Gwen does best in the bombast that it bums me out a bit we don't even have one song like that. Ah well.
Quicksand Posted November 15 Posted November 15 (edited) It's taken some time but I've accepted that Gwen probably won't ever return to that off-the-wall kooky pop that we all fell in love with. And that's ok. Because anyone who's followed her musical journey could hear that at least lyrically, this lovey dovey happily ever after is what she's always longed for. And I would rather her make music that reflects where she's actually at in life rather than releasing half baked attempts at pleasing certain demographics and living up to her past work. And WHY are they not pushing Swallow My Tears when it's begging to be a radio smash Edited November 15 by Quicksand 1 2
joshhh Posted November 15 Posted November 15 It's actually insane how cool she used to be compared to this… it doesn't make any sense. Did she just have an epic team?
Dragonfly Posted November 15 Posted November 15 And then the next thing you know We can't leave each other alone Kissed me and it felt like cuuum 1

It would be cringe for her to sing songs like Slow Clap again… y'all are weird for blaming her for singing love songs when all her discography has been about begging for actual meaningful love which is what she found with Blake 3 1

Talking about the No Doubt/LAMB/Sweet Escape days. Literally so iconic and cool and fresh. actually really loved True Babe. Was hoping the album would be more in that vein. 2
rhettye Posted November 15 Posted November 15 she needs to find back her no doubt sound and rich girl fits.
Slap Posted November 15 Posted November 15 Her most cohesive album in terms of sound and lyrical content. It's more like old No Doubt with more of an AC country vibe.
