YourFavoriteWeapon Posted September 13 Posted September 13 (edited) Mariah embarked on her 35-date Caution World Tour in early 2018 and while the show was met with praise from critics and fans alike, it really struggled to do well numbers wise. Despite her decision to tour small/mid-size theaters with a 3K capacity average, she was only able to sell out 11 out of the 23 North American dates. The poor commercial prediction shocked many Lambs considering it was her first tour in North America in nine years, and *The* Mariah Carey should've been able to sell out venues with a maximum capacity as small as 3K with ease. I remember being on Stan Twitter at that time and feeling sad seeing that everyone was dragging her so hard for not meeting expectations. Thankfully, Mariah's touring power seems to have revitalized itself in recent years. Her Vegas shows are selling out quickly and doing much better than some of her competitors (ex: Christina Aguilera at Volitare and Katy Perry's PLAY), and she was able to sell out every single date of her recent arena holiday concert tour. Her recent touring success begs the question of whether she should tour theaters or arenas for the next era (if we're lucky to get a tour). Personally, if I were in charge, I'd have her tour arenas for the larger cities she knows she would most likely sell out (ex: NYC/LA/Toronto/Dallas/etc.) and stick to smaller, mid-size venues for shows that could possibly struggle to sell out just as a way to play it safe. I have no doubt that she could sell out Madison Square Garden but I do doubt that she could sell out an arena in Oklahoma or Minnesota lmao. While her most recent tour was an arena tour and it did very well, I do question if a large factor of it's strong commercial reception was due to it launching during the holidays. It is much easier to market a Christmas show in December when people are looking for fun stuff to do for the holidays vs. trying to sell a greatest hits tour (I'm calling it a greatest hits tour given that I think a hypothetical MC16 tour would have her greatest hits with some MC16 songs sprinkled throughout) while everyone and their mother is on tour. Nonetheless, I'm happy to see that Mariah's touring power is slightly improving and I really hope she decides to go on another North American tour for MC16. I always wanted to see her live and really regret not going to the Caution Tour or any of her Christmas shows. Edited September 13 by YourFavoriteWeapon
A-V-XYZ Posted September 13 Posted September 13 She's going to do venues of less than 1,000 seats again. Mariah's never been a touring force like Madonna, Xtina, and Celine.
itshyolee Posted September 13 Posted September 13 I always found it odd how she's sold so many records but isn't necessarily a touring force. Regardless, I hope Motheriah is able to prove everyone wrong 2
Rocket Posted September 13 Posted September 13 She's got a few stadium shows lined up. She's doing just fine.

suburbannature Posted September 13 Posted September 13 She literally just sold out an arena tour last year and multiple stadiums across two continents this year.

SharGaga Posted September 13 Posted September 13 As a long time stan I'm not sure how I feel about Mimi touring in the future. For the first time her voice really deteriorated post 2022 to the point where 99 percent of her shows are now lipsynced. The only live bits recently are a few adlibs in VOL and I'll be there and even then she's really struggling. Even those impromptu performance bits she posts on IG sound off. I don't see her removing her nodules at this point if that's the cause of her further vocal decline post pandemic. I'm still here for a new album tho. But performance wise it's pretty sad to see her on stage recently. She looks really sad, stiff and possibly on something to get rid of nerves. You can tell she's not enjoying herself lipping the whole show. Lipping VOL and Hero really was the final nail in the coffin for me. VOL is understandable considering all the vocal gymnastics but Hero always was easy for her to sing. I hope she has more live bits for the upcoming shows. I wish her the best! 5

I'm a casual Mariah fan, and loved Caution... I really thought her voice was back on the upswing. I wish she would've lip synced more in her earlier years.
ninetales Posted September 13 Posted September 13 Neither. She will do gymnasiums or auditoriums or basketball courts 2
Paddy Posted September 13 Posted September 13 She and her team probably knows that wouldn't happen and that's why they only do the Christmas tours in US.
Robburro Posted September 13 Posted September 13 Touring is something you need to build up before trying taking per example my fave. Avril could barely tour arenas in the USA last decade but she's been touring nonstop since 2019 and now has an entirely soldout arena tour 2
Devin Posted September 13 Posted September 13 arena tour unless she wanna do something more intimate like madonna did. shes a legend with a great discography, ppl will still attend regardless.
Slap Posted September 13 Posted September 13 I would tell her to release a new studio album first. We need new music! 1 1

Oh wow, I didn't know Mariah wasn't a touring force, I thought she was. This is why you underestimated Xtina's 2007 year impact as an MPG, which was the most successful tour by a female singer. That makes sense.

I think menopause, the breakup with Bryan and her family health issues are the reason why her voice deteriorated in the last 2 years. My 2 cents 13 hours ago, Melancholy said: she'll flop because we know wtf is up, we aint supporting no fraudulent ass lipsync show It wouldn't flop for this reason... most of the GP thinks she is singing live, she got extremely good at faking it.
stevyy Posted September 13 Posted September 13 IN 2018 alone Mariah played: Nippoon Budokan (2x) Mercedes Benz Arena Cotai Arena NTSU Arena Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre (Stadium) Barclaycard Arena Ziggo Dome Arkea Arena O2 Arena Speaking of NA: 2019 - 1x Madison Square Garden 2022 - 2x - Scotiabank Arena 2022 - 2x - Madison Square Garden 2023 - 2x - Hollywood Bowl 2023 - 1x - Bell Center 2023 - 2x - Madison Square Garden 2023 - 1x - United Center among other huge Arenas. in 2024, we are looking forward to her biggest concert tour of her career in North America (to come later this year).
