I'm giggling at Caroline getting her revenge for WTMI. She made Everything is romantic her own song :lmao:

Apple ft the Japanese house..? She dropped the ball omg but at least people can't say she's chasing hits too much

im waiting til Friday but super excited. Also why are some of yall acting like over half the remixes already released (360, Von Dutch, and Talk talk remixes) didn't change the integrity of the songs? it shouldn't be a shock that most of the songs have been completely reworked…cmon

It's honestly so crazy and basic that some of you really wanted the songs to be the same with a random guest verse :deadbanana:

I can wait for the youtube remixers to make extended versions of the original tracks by merging them with the remixes :jonny:

Sympathy Is A Knife OG with the remix as a reprise at the end??? my wig :jonny:

this is SOOOOOOO good, not as good as BRAT but its a worthy companion project, this will be seen as one of the best eras in history in a few decades.

I might say something controversial.....

I like this better than the OG album

Posted

I too would like to say something controversial…

EIR is the worst remix. It's better than some of the other remixes as a song but while every other song is only slightly worse, equal to or significantly better than the original, EIR is a big decline for me. It's not a bad song by any means but OG EIR is a 11/10 song and the remix is like.. 6.5-7/10 for me.

I kinda have to agree, cause Mean Girls and I might say something stupid are kinda bad but the originals are two of the weakest songs so whatever, but Everything is romantic is one of the best songs and even though I love Caroline the production in the remix is a huge downgrade.

gsc, b2b, guess, rewind, so i, 365, and club classics are ones i'll go back to most

overall a mixed bag for me, as it always have been when she puts a bunch of ppl on an album. only time it worked for me was pop 2. that magic is just hard to recreate i think, but she doesn't have to.

sympathy is good too, i'll need to sit with it more

Album: Charli xcx - Brat and it's completely different but also still brat (40)

The really weird thing about this album is that the mixing for the most part is actually better than the original. However, it never quite reaches the sonic highs of its predecessor.

As someone who was and is still not a huge fan of brat (despite being incredibly impressed by the marketing for it), I think this remix album in a way reaffirms my initial critique of the original album. First of all, this is a remix album by definition. From a visionary and icon like Charli xcx, you'd typically expect quite a bit of surprises on an album: you'd expect some sort of reinvention, but the highlights here are minimal. Sonically and lyrically this album is even more deficient and skeletal than the original, which shows that many of these songs at the core are just not that well written or thought out. This album welcomes you to some of the most lifeless, awkward, and phoned in verses you'll ever hear from a Charli xcx collaborator, such as the Mean girls remix, which is easily the worst remix and also features the worst vocal processing I've ever heard on a Charli xcx album. The only tracks I'll come back to are the B2b remix, the 365 remix, and some of the singles.

The ethos of brat is to serve the lyrics and aesthetic before the melody, which led to both the original and remix albums lacking in so many ways. (And don't you dare to even compare this mid era with the legendary Pop 2, Charli xcx. Or even how i'm feeling now given how much better the production on that album is.) My opinion on brat hasn't changed since it was released, and I don't see my opinion changing for this one either.

I'm not going to listen to this until it's officially out, but im kinda glad that siak is not just a verse added to the song like guess remix. Probably its not going to be a hit like i wanted but i hope i like it

ok a lot of these grew on me after a few more listens.

brat > first boiler room > brat remix in terms of ranking this era

sympathy grew on me the most, just as good as the original once you stop wanting it to sound like the original lol

Posted

Sympathy is an amazing remix! It's better than everything except Girl So Confusing which is obviously the crown jewel.

Shygirl was done really dirty, her appearance is 14 seconds long. A drag race challenge tea.

i think the broader reception to this will be disappointment at first since everyone is going to have the original in mind coming into it. but those who stick with it will come to see the light, hopefully most do!
