I am actually screaming

The VMAs nowadays are just :deadbanana2: The way they don't even try to hide the fact they give the awards to whoever shows up (usually Taylor Swift) and now this :deadbanana:

Her best performance yet but GOD she sounded bitter in her speech :dies:

Seems like the backlash and her bombing has really been bubbling inside I'm just surprised she didnt double down and thank luke

And obviously her winning this makes no sense whatsoever

The way nobody is entertaining even for a second that this was anything but rigged :dies:

It wasn't even the most memorable performance of that year :dies: (why wasn't miley nominated btw)

Oh, so it was a buy one get one free type of deal? I can't even remember what this performance was.

Obviously Katy was going to win. It was her only nomination and they always give an award to the Vanguard winner. It's like when they gave JLo an award for that flop collab with Cardi :rip:

Beyoncé, Britney, Madonna, GaGa. Jesus Christ even Bruno/BoB/Paramore mashup from 2010 - I am so sorry to you all.

you are all actually remembered.

i knew this was going to win the moment they announced the nominees, cause it felt out of place but katy doesn't have another VMA performance (and they obviously weren't gonna nom swish swish performance from 2017:rip:)

they should've made "best video that never got a VMA nomination" category instead and give it to roar

I believe Kelly Clarkson called the other performers that night, cough cough Miley and Gaga, "pitchy strippers"

Katy was the only girl to serve quality, dignity, and pop super stardom at the 2013 VMAs. Very iconic and well deserved :clap3:

Genuinely cannot stop laughing:bibliahh: All of these award shows are rigged anyway. You just need to attend to win.

Britney and Madonna have objectively the most legendary performances.

It's absurd that Madonna and Gaga lost, I would even accept a Taylor win considering she's riding a massive high now but Katy? Iconic? Where?

That one was legendary. The last year of the VMAs being interesting.

Gaga sweetie...

But I can't be mad at Katy, I'm glad she had that moment.

I don't know why the VMAs allowed this, it singlehandedly tears down ANY credibility they had left.

I mean this isn't just a Best Pop Video Award, this is LITERALLY AN AWARD ABOUT THE LEGACY OF THE VMAS ITSELF.

For them to so blatantly award a clearly non-iconic performance that wasn't even in the top three most iconic performances of its own night as THE MOST ICONIC VMAS PERFORMANCE IN ITS 40 YEAR HISTORY is a huge slap in the face to all the more deserving nominees and the countless others that are far more memorable and iconic than this.

The VMAs are known for generating legitimate water cooler moments. People watch for the simple fact of knowing something big might happen. In 2013 that was Miley's performance which generated a hoopla not seen since the Britney-Madonna-Christina kiss (or perhaps Gimme More). Skipping that as a nominee to AWARD this performance many people didn't even know occurred is not only outrageous but an insult to the VMAs' legacy.

The VMAs often forget that words have meaning.

Most of the "Vanguards" are nothing of the sort, having done no innovation whatsoever beyond having a pretty videography with a hefty budget.

Another example is the countless times the person who wins Video of the Year does not win the gendered video category, which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever (The Taylor-Beyoncé-Kanye thing is an example of this).

It's been clear they just hand out awards so that all the big names of the year get one in some regard, so that they have more people showing up/performing and more ratings, but THIS is too far. You'd think when it comes to awards based on their own show they'd have more self-respect and reverence to actually award a true winner.

VMAs are a joke since like 2014 or smtn... nothing new.

The fact that it was the ONLY performance out of all the nominees that I could not remember.

The fact that the Madonna/Brit/Xtina and the Slave performances are still talked about 20 years later, says a lot.
