Oh!

...Uh

As a lifelong ND fan, it is almost offensive seeing how effortlessly she fell back into rock star Gwen again with the band at Coachella, only to turn around and make... this.

Is she allergic to being cool again or something? I don't f*cking get it :deadbanana4:

Genuinely curious what it is you don't like about this snippet? Sonically, it feels pretty alternative and nothing that wouldn't fit just fine with No Doubt's discography imo (looks like it was co-written with Nick Long)...is it the blake-centric lyrical content?

out of all the things she teased in the past this is by far the most promising... The dream would be a solo album + tour this year beginning of the next, then a reunion tour with No Doubt, but most likely that would only happen in 2026

Fair question!

It's hard to articulate I guess, but I can say that everything she's put out in the past decade has had far too much polish on it, to the point of sounding like a track from an American Idol or The Voice winner. Pretty generic lyrics, over processed instrumentals and vocal cuts that sound too perfect.

Gwen used to be a phenomenal lyricist. One of the best of her generation if you ask me. Compare True Babe to songs like Simple Kind Of Life, Artificial Sweetener, Cool, hell even What You Waiting For? - she had such a knack for embarrassingly honest lyrics that slapped you across the face and felt so REAL and relatable.

Quote

[Verse 2]
I'm so ashamed, I've been so mean
I don't know how it got to this point
I always was the one with all the love
You came along, I'm hunting you down

[Chorus]
Like a sick domestic abuser looking for a fight
And all I wanted was the simple things
A simple kind of life

[Bridge]
If we met tomorrow for the very first time
Would it start all over again?
Would I try to make you mine?

Quote

'Cause it's true, babe, true, babe
I'm sleeping better next to you, babe, you, babe
You're something sweet, something true, babe, true, babe
You do it better than they do, babe, uh-huh

La, la, la, na-na, na-na, na, na, na, na

We could stay home and never leave
Never leave
Take the truck up the coast with me
Coast with me

I miss the weirdo Gwen. I don't relate to this soccer mom she presents herself as now, and while I get that she owes us NOTHING and can do whatever the hell she wants, I just can't help but feel depressed about it when she completely lit up on the Coachella stage with the boys TWICE and didn't miss a beat. She seemed happier, electric, and more passionate on that stage than any other time she's performed in the past decade.

Does that make sense?

Thanks! I do understand that. Honestly I think from P&S forward there has been too much polish and attempts to make things "cohesive" on everything...but i personally find that Purple Irises (if you can remove the stigma of Blake being on it lol), and what we've heard of this clip so far, do have a much more organic feel. I think the first verse and bridge of Purple Irises are actually pretty classic Gwen, and i'm hopeful about this new track as well...she has recorded this album with live musicians, and a lot of focus on her vocals, so i'm excited to see how that turns out. But thank you for the detailed explanation :)

One thing I'll ALWAYS love about No Doubt/Gwen stans is that we're all so chill and love their music so much that we're able to have conversations like this!

No matter what Gwen does, and regardless of whether I vibe with it or not I will always be seated whenever she puts out new music. I'm looking forward to hearing what she's cooked up!

I really don't like the flower theme as it gives me country vibes but I'll be listening.

I totally understand the people who miss the 1995-2007 Gwen, but it's pretty clear at this point that we're not gonna get back to that and it's OK that it's her peak and will remain that way. So I've kinda gotten over that even though it's a shame that quirky Gwen pops out at times on bad songs (Slow Clap sucks but quirky Gwen can sometimes be better than the polished Gwen, kinda like Start the Fire being meh but at the very least kinda interesting. Red Flag is probably my fave post-peak "quirky" Gwen song).

This sounds good to me and I still like Reintroduce even if that's probably gonna remain a one-off. Purple Irises I surprisingly thought wasn't bad even if I don't listen to it much, even Blake sounded okay outside of a country song. True Babe was meh. Slow Clap was oop.

So either way, it'll be nice to just see a new album from her at all. Even if I only like half of it nnnnn

It sounds cute at all but I'll be foreverly mad at her for scrapping her very promised full dancehall, ska and reggae-fusion/pop album lol

I don't like whining cause like someone else said, she owes us ****. BUT I don't get why we're not getting a mature rock record, it's such an obvious step for her. It would do wonders for her credibility and lure older and newer fans in. It would for ******* sure do bigger numbers than most of the stuff post The Sweet Escape and this is coming from someone who enjoys This Is What The Truth Feels like a lot. You'd think given how insecure she is about being a seller, she'd have figure that out.

Especially with how younger acts like Olivia Rodrigo have reintroduced her to their own fans with SO much enthusiasm and revere... it's crazy it hasn't clicked for her that she could literally be doing what she did with No Doubt but solo.

I think that's exactly what we're supposed to be getting though, this is supposed to be a singer songwriter/soft rock album, recorded with live musicians, etc.

This is assumed to be a "mood board" playlist for the album:

Not really my style of sound, but I loved every single so far and this sounds great too! I am sure she will deliver.

Where did you get the info that she is supposed to be releasing an album in November?

Yeah I mean I think the most we could hope for with Gwen in the future is a Padam Padam moment but otherwise it's really not likely any music she releases will be a smash. And her label knows this so they're not gonna waste the money on promo. I think she's at a point in her career where she can focus on her legacy (with No Doubt and solo), and just make the music she wants to make.  She tried making music for what she thought he fans wanted... reggae-Gwen Let Me Reintroduce Myself, quirky-Gwen Slow Clap, alternative-Gwen True Babe... but I'd rather her make the music she wants to make, which because she's older and married and this is what the vibe they listen to around the house... is kinda this soft rock vibe.

i actually loved Reintroduce and thought that was a great direction, i wish she didn't let chart performance deter her from releasing stuff

i do miss the quirky/weird gwen like every other gwenny gwen gwen stan BUT i appreciate she's still releasing something (unlike britney). like others said, i hate how generic her lyrics has become, the sound is way too polished... taking an olivia route would've been perfect for her, avril's love sux lowkey put her back on track after HAW, i'm sure it'd have done wonder for gwen if she'd done sth similar. we'll see, i'll forever support her :heart2:

i saw her at a festival last year, a solo tour would be a dream !

OMG it sounds like a bop
