If most of what Trumpism and the current Republican Party stands is rooted in hatred and fear of the other then that should be condemned and shunned. There is no room to empathize with that ideology it must be called out for what it is. By doing that you clearly make it known that it wrong to think that way. There really no room for nuance when it affects real people lives. It's not emphasizing with bigotry, it's emphasizing with their life circumstances and coming to understand how they got to their beliefs. Having conversations aligned with that will do more to actually broaden someone's worldview more than simply saying that they're wrong or bad, even if their beliefs hurt others. You have to meet people where they're at. Imo, having empathy and being against someone's actions or beliefs aren't mutually exclusive. Edited September 10 by EnigmaticAndroid 8

No thankfully my family is on the right side. But if I did I wouldn't hesitate to disown them. I don't give energy to ignorance. 2

Nobody forced her to make a documentary where she threw a pity party about herself and said herself that she regretted that she stayed silent during 2016, only to stay silent in 2024 when she has far more influence now, has been actively used by Trump as promotion and her first remotely political action this year was hanging out with that woman lol I'm well aware that Taylor is not on her way to the next RNC, but the way yall try shield her from every criticism is bizarre 5 1
tiagol88 Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Loving republican family members isn't loving Trump supporters. Not every republican out there likes or votes for Trump. This needs to be stated.

I'm sorry, but I'm not seeing the benefit of discovering why some of them became horrible people who want to deny the LGBT community and women of their rights. Also while some information could be gleaned from this, there's no guarantee that they'd empathize with you, so at the end of the day it seems like a lost cause imo. 2 3

Strawberry Bubble Posted September 10 Posted September 10 I get that it must be tough and all, but the amount of money you're making must make it a lot easier to handle. We all go through hard times without getting paid or becoming millionaires, lol. 3
EdgeofTeeth Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Some of you need to have some perspective or touch some grass or both Many of us have conservative families and can relate to what she's saying. She's not endorsing republicanism, she's expressing empathy for the loved ones in her life whose conservative views are probably due to ignorance or lack of "real world" experience outside of their conservative bubbles. Many LGBTQ+ people (myself included) have had to learn to recognize this in order to maintain relationships with our family members. It's not the same as being besties with a Trump supporter, sorry. 2 5
