Check out his albums in his entirety before you say such false statements. The Weeknd at his worst is alot of yalls faves at their best so food for thought 2

The production is the highlight. So what if he's still milking the 80s pop sound? This is clearly the last of it since this is the end of that Trilogy. He has the biggest song of all time. Exactly this. This trilogy was not needed at all, especially since he already has a far better trilogy in his discography. I'm sure the album tracks will be better but like I said, def not needed. If you're away that this is a trilogy then why are you surprised that this sound is still being explored? Especially if you're aware that this is the end of that soundscape? He clearly loves and even favors his pop music. Let him enjoy the music he makes. You're not obligated to support. To complain about an objectively good song because he's done this before just means that he has alot of songs with the same sound that are also good and how is that a bad thing? Again yall need to adjust your expectations. No artist is exempt or able to perform at their peak forever. Just enjoy the music for fucks sake 1 1

It's not a good song but if you think that I like only successful songs then I will never like The weeknd's music again!

Nowhere in my message did I say I'm surprised about the sound of this song. I said it's overdone and giving diminishing returns. A lot of people seem to think so too, judging by the reception of the song. And the song is not objectively good. It's actually quite bland and far below his standards, both lyrically and musically. You're getting offended for no reason. We're on a music forum to give our opinions on songs and artists. Stop policing my opinion and keep it moving. It's not that deep or personal. 1 1

Solgayleo Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Let SchmoodRing spiral in peace y'all it's not a BAD song. And I appreciate that abel's sticking to his guns with the aesthetic/themes of this trilogy. But it was not realistic of them if they'd expected this to perform well commercially. The 80s synthwave sound is simply used up, and the GP has proven over the last few years that they want R&B mid tempos from him (see DFY's 2nd wind while Dawn FM, his best album, underperformed). I LOVE max martin, and I want The Weeknd to keep working with him, but they've gotta get beyond this 80s schtick. And the song itself is just a little limp - again, I think it's the production. Without a monster hook like BL had, the synthwave production is just kinda lifeless here. 1
MaxMartin Posted September 24 Posted September 24 the Weeknd needs to push max & viceversa , cause that's when they make the best music. On starboy they made some electro-dance (rockin) , on after hours some garage (hardest to love) and dawn fm was 80s on drugs , so there need to step it up this era
M!X Posted September 25 Posted September 25 I trashed this song when I first heard it but as a fan obviously I had to try to listen to it couple of times and now the production is stuck in my head, it is kinda serene. I still hope the album will be sound more.... ''darker'' I guess is the word
Rocket Posted September 27 Posted September 27 It's not looking good for The Weeknd in Australia. Zero of his upcoming stadium shows sold out and now in its second week, Dancing In The Flames falls from #19 to #41 on the singles charts.
