His previous albums were so curated, a certain sound landscape. I can't heart it for this one. Will it be just a compilation of some good songs?

I think this will be my favorite track by The Weeknd. I don't know what to say there's something about TIMELESS that I really cannot describe, because the song is so magnetizing I still have it on repeat. In comparison to Dancing In The Flames, The Weeknd took another road with Timeless and it sounds so different to the lead. You may hearing some synths on it but it is different and I really love it. 

 

I can't wait for the music video and the release of Hurry Up Tomorrow...

I agree, he found his sweet spot with this song. Just the best of both worlds.

The Weeknd of "Timeless" is The Weeknd as The Weeknd is intended to sound. He very skillfully vacillates between a range of tones; he nasally, then guttural, then grainy, then nasally again, then delicate. (And yes, that's how he's supposed to do it.) He's sultry. He's goofy. He sounds slightly absurd. He's fully engaged. He's expressive in ways that "technically superior" vocalists just aren't. He is brilliant. You have no idea how brilliant he is.

The label clearly wanted a pop song for radio as the first single with DITF which kinda backfired. The best solution would have been to release both songs as the lead on the same day like he did with the leads from After Hours. 

 

Actually when I think about it:

Heartless = DITF, a rehash of his older music, just in more boring

Timeless = Blinding Lights, a fresh sound and something different from his last output
