I'm not simply talking about the sonics (which have also changed, she's gone from a hip hop influenced sound to psychedelic rock to orchestal and cinematic to her current stripped down, folky sound) but the bones of her writing, the lyrics and structure. The lyrics are way more personal and revealing, the structures looser and more improvisational, her concepts more abstract and poetic. I fear you're still stuck in her red dress in the pale moonlight era. Lana is literally a different person now.

But after over a decade of Lana Del Rey, I don't think my opinion will suddenly change. Because I just cannot stomach more lathargic and warbly vocals over a shapeless melody while she cosplays as some struggling waitress trailer park beauty queen in love with a bad man. It was a cute idea at first, but she never gave me anything else that I could sink my teeth into. Chemtrails had some really nice moments, but what separates Track 3 from Track 4 from Track 5 on her records, honestly? Where's the energy?
