I get your point and it's how pop culture works but that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying Michael Jackson had the demo you speak of in a chokehold but he also had heterosexual men on board that would STAN him as much as they stan football or Marvel. Taylor does not have that demo. No female has. Even the video you posted has STRAIGHT men lined up to see The Beatles, loving their music in droves. Taylor Swift doesn't have that. Any man who goes crazy and STANS Taylor is gay. Her music and her image doesn't cater to straight little boys and grown men. If you saw a boy or a grown man's room covered in posters by Taylor Swift you'd assume he was gay. MJ and The Beatles had every demo in a chokehold and straight guys would wear clothes with Michael on them and have posters on the wall of him and they would STAN him: Michael had straight guys wanting to have clothes like his, kids were wearing his gloves to school and stores would sell MJ clothes because the demand from straight and gay men was so huge. Small boys, grown men, gay and straight in DROVES aside from the female and teen demo you spoke of would STAN Michael and The Beatles. Taylor does not have that. I wouldn't argue that you need ultimate devotion of certain demographic in order for them to be classified as your fans. And while straight women get the bigger percentage in Taylor's case (and I still stand firm that straight women trump other demographic in all other cases here too and by a considerable margin), that's actually works nearly equally good, because it is obvious other straight demographics are pulled in by default/inertia. Besides, quote in the OP describes what would be classified as of all those manias from the last century in this century and I don't think there is much better example than Taylor no matter where someone stands on her and her craft. Comparing her level of popularity to someone else's is not to diminish anyone, it is just confirms the status of all those people as truly remarkable.

You should also remember the same devotion Taylor has from the female demo Michael Jackson and The Beatles had as well but they just had a much larger group of heterosexual men which Taylor doesn't have, so by default they were bigger in terms of popularity. You see grown straight men to this day proudly admit they love Michael Jackson, talking about his craft and how he was their idol when they were younger. But you also have women doing the same thing. You have it on TikTok or in public. You have straight rappers and male pop stars (Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, Usher, Drake, Snoop Dogg, Justin Timberlake) and male rock stars and female pop stars and teens and children alike. Swift just doesn't have that appeal. Britney and Beyoncé credit MJ as an inspiration as does Kanye West. You can have Olivia and Sabrina credit Taylor Swift but you won't see a rapper saying she's the reason he's making music. Taylor appeals majorly to women and teens and kids but you don't have men being her super fans. Michael Jackson and The Beatles is just on another level. Edited September 9 by Doctor Dick
