°ColdFire°
It's been 23 years we have lost Aaliyah. Together with Missy Elliott and Timbaland, she moved the boundaries of RnB sound and in a short span of time created wonderful music as well as established herself as an all-round entertainer. After many years of absence and turbulence, her full discography was put on Spotify in 2021. To celebrate her excellence, list your three favourite songs by Aaliyah. I'll start with mine:

ChooseyLover
I won't tell my top 3 because the Discography Rate is happening soon (if it happens cuz we need people), but I'll mention some underrated tracks: I Refuse: it tackles physical and emotional abuse in a relationship. After hearing this a capella clip I've been loving the song even more. All I Need: her lower register in the chorus is so sultry. This song is so smooth and sweet. In a parallel world it got a better treatment than a previously unreleased track in a posthumous compilation. Loose Rap: I'm obsessed with the production and the sassy lyrics. havewemet
Extra Smooth is a great choice, I love that song. The self-titled album really was one of the very first to blend R&B and electronic elements, we still see her influence today. RIP Babygirl.

ImsoLOUD
This is a good question! Are You That Somebody and Rock The Boat are some of my favorites. I didn't realize the significance of We Need A Resolution until the last few years. The song was considered polarizing/a flop at the time, forcing Aaliyah to expedite the single releases which led to a catastrophe. It's such an underrated/piece of futuristic black-pop/r&b alternative style that no one else was really doing at the time so it's now my third fave. There was a lot discussion going between Aaliyah and her record label regarding single choices for Aaliyah. Apparently, some critics thought it was too unconventional lyrically to be the first single, however, Aaliyah pushed for it.

KLatz
One in a Million - The quinessential Aaliyah track and an all-timer for me. Maybe my favorite R&B track ever! Try Again - Pop perfection! Absolutely one of my favorite tracks ever We Need a Resolution - What a innovative track Timb and Aaliyah went crazy on this. It still sounds so fresh and ahead of its time Honorable mentions to Rock the Boat, If Your Girl Only Knew, and 4 Page Letter. Her discography is incredible!
