I'm simply not sure if that's the case, it's also possible it was a mistake made by a journalist and repeated by others. That has happened before for example multiple news sources reported the supposed trans backlash against Aretha's natural woman which was made up by a single Conservative parody account. OK but your posts are not evidence. I have not defended Gaga performing in Israel or her silence on the matter even today. I've simply said I can't find a source for that quote and idk how to tell if the article was edited to remove it or not. So idk why you chose to respond to me at all. We don't need to take your word for it when there should be ways to find the original article surely? Here's an archived version of the original interview she had with The independent. The bit about Israel was clearly removed later: http://web.archive.org/web/20140926191535/http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/lady-gaga-interview-i-got-really-lost-for-a-while-i-didnt-even-know-who-i-was-anymore-9758412.html Spoiler 2 1

Meanwhile: No amount of quotes and replies posting his 2017 visit to Israel (which is still terrible) will change the fact thus. Like...I don't even like this ****** but what have YOU and YOUR faves done if this is nothing? i stand corrected. it seems he does really care. but it's still true that a lot of people on social media post callouts like this simply for engagement while doing nothing themselves 1

It's crazy the amount of things they incessantly rag on other ppl about but fail to hold their own accountable for, it just shows the activism is just a tool for their social games rather than a topic they take seriously and respectfully engage in for progress 3

And people have every right to call her and other celebs out. Especially those who built a career/platform on being outspoken about human rights. 1 1

I'm not saying you defended her performing there and I know your stance already from other threads sis. I'm not telling yall to "take my word" (when countless others recall her saying it) because I truly don't care if Liddos believe it or not at the end of the day. They are already deluding themselves into thinking that she's an angel who does no wrong. The original article is here. The quote was removed after already being reported and copied by other publications like Billboard. Why would the latter lie about this thing specifically? OK fair enough, I just wanted the source which is why I was critical of you responding without it. Sometimes journalists do repeat false stories through lazy journalism it just didn't seem clear to me if the quote was real or not. Thanks for providing the evidence. It's a truly stupid comment to make and I'm very upset that she won't support Palestinians. Edited September 6 by Mikeymoonshine 2 1

Mikeymoonshine Posted September 6 Posted September 6 OK so seeing as he was right about what she said then it's probably a good time to criticise her over it. Afterall he made the same mistake and learned better but she's instead gone silent on the issue to protect her career. I feel like the criticism of "performative" and "virtue signalling" are a bit unreasonable. You can like someone and still criticise them and we need to be criticising our faves more if they aren't using their platforms to call out genocide and settler colonialism. 2
DAP Posted September 6 Posted September 6 You can infer she is Zionist even being charitable with the quotes. Class is a big indicator of sympathies and she already mingles with the US political establishment (like is she not a committee co-chair for Biden?). Anyways I'll take someone that was previously ignorant, changed, and is zealous for the cause like Tyler over a gutless shill like Gaga. If that is 'performative activism', then oh well. So be it. At least Gaga can be proud, because who better a performative activist than Ms. Born This Way Foundation herself? 2

Nevermind my earlier comment, then this person was right and she should be dragged if these are true as they appear to be. But more than that all these mute celebrities should be dragged for their silence, they could do so much if they wanted to.
Graves Posted September 6 Posted September 6 There's something lowkey insidious about having that statement silently removed from the article rather than acknowledging and apologizing for it. I mean, obviously Gaga's team realized how bad it looked or why else would it have been taken out? Honest question - has she ever actually acknowledged Palestine? Performative or not, I'm team Tyler on this one I fear. 4

Or maybe it was a false statement that was removed because she didn't actually say it Israel has been doing this with celebrities for DECADES, this is not new.

Girl. The original source was the The Independent - A UK-based paper. This isn't The Times of Israel making up stories. Israel only came up in the article because they asked her about her performance there a few days prior. I really don't think Craig McLean was inventing Israel quotes about Lady Gaga for an article that was going out to English readers. 2
Mikeymoonshine Posted September 6 Posted September 6 7 minutes ago, Vegvisir said: Or maybe it was a false statement that was removed because she didn't actually say it Israel has been doing this with celebrities for DECADES, this is not new. But the original source was the independent a British outlet. Plus a misquote could happen but it would probably be them messing up her phrasing to imply something different or adding on something she didn't say. Wouldn't that just be corrected rather than the entire quote being removed from the article? 2

Yes a reputable source like The Independent randomly decided to make sh*t up about Israel and attribute it to Lady Gaga, even at the cost of a possible lawsuit Y'all can't even hear yourselves
Cheers Posted September 6 Posted September 6 Visiting Israel doesn't make you a zionist. I doubt either Taylor Oak or Bruno's featured act are zionists. C'mon now people! Words have meaning. 1

And her quote was not taken out of context. You don't have to lie to make yourself feel better about stanning her. You and the other Liddos are the ones gaslighting everyone here. Admit she ****** up and move on. 1
brazil Posted September 7 Posted September 7 The fact that we cant see anything from twitter on Brazil. Can yall use other social media ffs?
Youngbae Posted September 16 Posted September 16 Not her actually saying those things then quietly removing them like a coward (I'm sure she'd do the same thing to her R. Kelly quote if it was this easy to wipe out) and yet her fans are STILL deluding themselves into thinking that it was all fake. You guys are truly something else. 1
