MerveAksak Posted September 4 Posted September 4 So basically the first movie was panned and now the sequel is getting the same treatment meanwhile Gaga is being praised even in bad reviews. Sounds good to me Won't change the fact that it will be a box office smash though 6 1

And if this one is explicitly anti-incel like some people are saying then the fans/audiences of the film will riot as well. I doubt Todd Phillips has it in him to make an anti-incel film, especially when Joker became a classic for incels themselves. 1

The only way I can see the nom happening for her is if the film is a big BO hit and manages to get another BO nom. I can see them campaigning for Supporting. It's a weak year for the field in comparison to previous, with lots of unexpected names. Even Selena Gomez was figuring there. With the right campaign and box office success I can kinda see Gaga making it. I think the Best Actress ship has sailed. I don't think it's happening

Everybody's saying that it's a supporting role anyway so why make it harder on herself? 2

The first film was panned as well even though I thought it was quite good. I think Todd's vision makes a lot of people uncomfortable. 6 1
Sugar-Rush Posted September 4 Posted September 4 That one IGN review shouldn't even count tbh. They're notorious for giving ridiculous scores; I still remember the 7.8 score they gave Pokemon OR/AS just because there was "too much water". 2
Digitalism Posted September 4 Posted September 4 I think that Joaquin was the first ever to win an oscar for acting on movie with less than 60 on metacritic but that was helped by the box office. So this will be a similar situation. Gaga is still safe for the nom as long as the movie is a huge success. The win will depend on the competition now which seem super weak this year. 1
Calvin Posted September 4 Posted September 4 That clip was horrible too. No emotions, poor delivery 1 2

MonsterNavy Posted September 4 Posted September 4 (edited) correction: the movie is getting panned sadly for you, its all praises for Gaga Lady Gaga's performance as Harley Quinn rivals her performance in A Star is Born. While I adored Gaga's work in A Star is Born, what she does with the role of Harley Quinn challenges her as a performer and is a next-level performance. Joker: Folie à Deux Commits the Mortal Sin of Wasting Lady Gaga Edited September 4 by MonsterNavy 1 1
Antisocialites Posted September 4 Posted September 4 (edited) Gaga would be massively dumb to not go supporting, especially now that the film is getting mixed reviews. if the movie does well at the box office it could potentially overperform in film awards at the race and she can easily get it. if the film bombs and completely gets ignored everywhere and she doesn't get the nomination, she won't lose any reputation because well, the whole film served OUT everywhere. if she goes lead, she will most likely miss in the first and second situation. so yeah, supporting all the way.
