Taylor has been massively acclaimed for her songwriting abilities. However! Gaga's songwriting is not one to miss as well. She has masterpieces such as Dance in the Dark, with captivating lyricism.

Who is overall the better and more versatile lyricist?

The one that's not pushing 40 and still writing about school hallways, friendship bracelets and grand theft auto

Always Remember Us This Way and I'll Never Love Again >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Anything Taylor has ever written

(and I don't care if it's a co-write)

The answer is obviously Taylor but Gaga has a great ear for catchy chorus's and hooks.

Try to compare "Bad Romance" with "Cardigan" (arguably each of their most acclaimed songs). They're both 10/10 but they're trying to do such wildly different things that what is the point of even trying to compare.

They're on the same level

Gaga hands down. She knows how to write a universal classic, Taylor is just word rambling and I feel its only gotten worse.

Both bad songwriters but I guess GaGa gets the slight edge for her hooks

Taylor and it's not close. Liddos here will be nitpicking on her to gaslight themselves tho :intoit:

Taylo's lyrics are better (but they also have lower lows), Gaga can write far better melodies that are memorable

From a strictly lyrical standpoint you could make the argument for Taylor but Gaga is much better overall when it comes to crafting a memorable pop song and her lyrics are still very clever without coming across like a slog through someones personal journal.

There is a fine line between a well written song that tells a story and just a slew of word salad which was an issue I had with Tortured Poets because Taylor is getting worse at editing herself

"I wanna **** a government hooker" over "Are you ready kids? Spelling is fun" but they're both great writers I think Taylor has more lows but she's also got about 4 more albums of material so…

Gaga is just more exciting as a songwriter to me because her range is wider, I know exactly what a Taylor Swift song is going to sound like and the lyrical style before i even press play. Gaga could literally do anything.

I don't really see Gaga as that great of a songwriter. She does have great songs, but I mean compared to Taylor?

People saying Taylor has no range has no idea what they are talking about :dies:  I guess if you co-write a catchy pop song that makes you better for ATRL. :rip:

one of the best songwriters in mainstream rn vs one of the worst songwriters in mainstream rn. so GaGa won this by a large margin :gaygacat9:

The truth is you can't objectively respond to a question like this because you can't quantify art. If you like more confessional, intimate lyrics then Taylor is better, if you prefer more POP, bold, in your face songwriting then you prefer Gaga. But I do think Gaga writes better melodies and hooks, especially lately since Taylor's writing has been deteriorating. So Gaga I guess!
