She was huge in '10s This is all just my own perspective, but Nicki, Kesha, Gaga and others had something to define themselves by. I think that Katy playing it safe for so long kept her from developing an artistic identity and when she tried to make politics her whole personality only to drop that during the same album cycle was when she became a joke.
