playboi Posted September 3 Posted September 3 These videos have more views than most performances from actual global MPGs of that time.
vuelve88 Posted September 3 Posted September 3 Maybe with a French & English track or an all English track. She had fun pop songs. 1
SmittenCake Posted September 3 Posted September 3 i have a feeling you just discovered who she was maybe 20 minutes ago same with haifa wehbe in your avi 1
smgupdated Posted September 3 Posted September 3 I think a lot of her appeal is owed to creative direction and songwriting by Mylene Farmer and her composer, Laurent Boutonnat. Mylene is the biggest female pop artist to come out of France for a reason. Alizee was mentored by them for her first two albums (both massively successful). 1
nostalgic Posted September 3 Posted September 3 They tried...and well, the results were bizarre and incoherent. Mylène's pen never translated very well into the English language 1

Da Vinci Posted September 3 Posted September 3 Most of those views are from creepy horny grown men who stan her youthful looks, body and Lolita image (at the time) Just look at 90% of the icky comment sections But to be fair Gourmandises's success was as global as it gets for a French act in 2000 11

Buffy Posted September 3 Posted September 3 Alizee success was indeed short lived… her first 3 albums were amazing. I wish more could've came from her partnership with Mylene Farmer. Her music just wasn't the same after they split.
Buffy Posted September 3 Posted September 3 (edited) These are my faves from her Edited September 3 by Buffy
Bloodflowers. Posted September 3 Posted September 3 She tried pulling Shakira but didn't work, however Moi Lolita was a massive hit on mainland Europe, she had a crossover success outside of France. The only other person in recent times that sang in French language and was successful across Europe was Stromae 1
confide in me Posted September 3 Posted September 3 It's a shame she's so underrated bc imo Gourmandises is a bible 2
worldwide angel Posted September 3 Posted September 3 moi lolita and j'en ai marre were global hits maybe a third album with mylene would have saw all three of them stick the landing unpopular opinion: alizée's music outside of mylene (really psychedelices and une enfant de siecle) are just as good as her first two records, especially une enfant
Bosque Posted September 3 Posted September 3 She didn't have the talent, but Moi Lolita and Jen Ai Marre were big moments for sure. This one was good too
John Slayne Posted September 3 Posted September 3 she had decent success in Europe but i find that Anglophone audiences and music industry are allergic to non-English songs.
The7thStranger Posted September 3 Posted September 3 Alizée fell victim to a classic pop star trope. She was never allowed to grow up. Un enfant du siècle should have been given its commercial flowers. J'en ai marre still goes off tho.
Squall Posted September 3 Posted September 3 (edited) No, she doesn't have any talent. The only times she goes viral here is when she makes an awful performance (which is usual). Edited September 3 by Squall
