bjorn Posted September 1 Posted September 1 How come she's never taken off like Sabrina, Charli or Chappell? She has zero hits in the US. Not even Lush Life or Symphony made a dent on the US market. Yeah sure her So Good era kinda smashed in Europe but that was in 2015 almost 10 years ago now and her career has only gone downhill from there. Why do you think she never took off? She got the talent, looks, the voice and dare I say X factor? So what happened?

State of Grace. Posted September 1 Posted September 1 Label sabotage and mid ass music. She's talented, she's a better performer than most Gen Z pop girls, and she has great charisma/stage presence. Her music is just not that great and lacks something to make her standout. She needs to leave Epic Records. She used to be one of the OG Spotify payola/TTH queens. They've clearly stopped investing her and that became quite clear after they butchered All The Time's release imo. Age is still on her side, she just needs better material/collaborators and a good label push. It's also worth noting that non-American girls have to work way harder to "make it" in the US (see: Dua). 5
Rihinvention Posted September 1 Posted September 1 The US isn't super receptive to international artists, unless they're Canadian, which is such a similar accent so it's more like a fun fact. I know people will probably reply with outliers. I'm not saying it's impossible. I'm just saying breaking the US is a huge achievement, and you have to admit; it is. Also apart from being STUNNING, she hasn't really established a strong visual brand. I don't look at an outfit or a music video or a film set and go, "oh that's so Zara Larsson." Consequently, she's been relegated to a faceless vocalist who sings on European dance/house music — which struggles to do well in the US anyway. If she and her label are smart, they'll capitalise on this Symphony/dolphin meme to get her face and her brand out there. People are actually going, "woah…she's got some pipes AND she's gorgeous." The whole package is there, but the marketing has been a huge failure. Being Swedish should make her interesting, but instead, most of the American GP are so dumb that they would think "why would we listen to Swedish music?" …because it's in English. Really hoping she can create a solid visual brand and break into the mainstream. I actually think Sabrina, Charli and Tinashe's late success will give record labels the confidence to invest in "semi-known" pop stars. It's not pissing money down a drain. Sometimes artists just break through later. If they're still young, attractive and marketable, it's never too late to try. 5
LoveInStereo Posted September 1 Posted September 1 She has no creativity, she gravitates towards whatever is totally middle of the road & expected. She's sang some great songs (Love Me Land!) but she has no X factor or qualities that differentiate her from other pop acts. Any popstar with this problem (no identity, doesn't challenge the status quo, faceless) is gonna struggle. Why do I need to hear her over anybody else? If I never heard another Zara song as long as I lived, my life wouldn't be incomplete. Chappell & Charli are referenced as inspirational to other creatives. What's Zara inspiring people to do? Nobody cites her as an influence. If someone says "that's so Charli", we can picture it. If someone says "that's so Zara Larsson".. that sounds like a read 3 1
shookspeare Posted September 2 Posted September 2 nothing, All the Time was a #1 smash hit for 30 weeks in my house and she has the best personality of any popgirl 1 3

AvadaKedavra Posted September 2 Posted September 2 (edited) Her albums are stacked with dance hits and thats it. They feel like a collection of random songs thrown together with kunty vibes and relatable lyrics There's a big lack of experimentation. There's need for a more defined concept-theme-aesthethic-vision for her records Finding her own lane genre wise. There's a lack of evolution. Zara is in a comfort zone. We also dont know too much about her life. just about random boyfriends-love experiences.... Who's Zara Larsson? Zara intention in her music videos at first was too look good. Thats it. (She spilled this in an interview) She was not trying to break the mold and thats necessary and in a sea of insanely gifted female singers with gargantuan projects and ambitious af Dua was basic-generic in her debut but then she evolved and showed artistry and something very special with Future. We need this for Zara Zara was also involved in too many social controversies in the begginin and that damaged her brand real bad. Like that cinema one (gettin huge traction in reddit) The james charles on.... She's honestly talented but an airhead sometimes and overly preachy and that type of people can be annoying. The man hatin thing also turned off so many people-the gp Is honestly sad cause Zara is a great dancer and vocalist. She's one of the most naturally gifted white singers in years but she lacks vision and classyness She's far more talented than many singers she gets grouped with all the time........ Her last album was not that bad as people say. It gave us beautiful songs like this spacey anthem I would love if she explores more her roots and nordic side. Very ABBA. Very frozen. Robyn-esque. Maybe some european folk mixed with dance music. More avicci. I would love something very ethereal and mystical from her. More songs like Symphony. Maybe something very games of thrones. I just want something different to the typical dance or urban-tinged bops. Something very unique from her. Zara needs to dig deep and find her own stick. Her own sound She probably will not reach the heights of before but she can regain her power in Europe-Uk and have chances of one day re-peaking like Charli XCX did Edited September 2 by AvadaKedavra 1
wulmite Posted September 2 Posted September 2 her music is bland as hell, she has zero artistic personality
ATRL Moderator MissedTheTrain Posted September 2 ATRL Moderator Posted September 2 She just needs better material that stands out a bit. She's got charisma and talent in spades, but her music has always felt a bit trend hopping/middle of the road.
Thin White Duke Posted September 2 Posted September 2 She needs a better label (desperately) and a producer who'll give her music a bit of an edge. She's an incredibly talented performer and seems to be quite charismatic thought, I'm rooting for her.
Peak Now Posted September 2 Posted September 2 (edited) General facelessness This was really endemic in the 2016-2018 timeframe, she and Alessia Cara, Bebe Rexha, Anne-Marie etc. all had smashes but nobody gaf about the artists themselves And before any of y'all get brave, Dua broke the mould with FN which was a moment that made people remember who she was Edited September 2 by AndThenTheCocaine
Edonis Posted September 2 Posted September 2 She needs a rebrand with better music and something to say.
808dream Posted September 2 Posted September 2 It's weird how her label always scraps the best songs.
NextBish90 Posted September 2 Posted September 2 The dolphins are giving her the coins, so nothing went wrong up until she finds another song to become another animal next time, maybe some unicorn.
Princess Aurora Posted September 2 Posted September 2 It looks like the dolphins are making her popular....Anyway I think her label messed her up and some single choices.
MonsterNavy Posted September 2 Posted September 2 (edited) symphony has been on my tiktok fyp the past few weeks her music is good but kinda faceless. but facelessness is not a problem it seems looking at how sabrina is "huge" right now she needs a label that will invest in autoplay and payola like how sabrina's label invested in her. zara is still so young, hot and cvnty + her music and mvs are good. she can still make it there was literally a time where she was miles bigger than sabrina Edited September 2 by MonsterNavy
Luckitty Posted September 2 Posted September 2 she abandoned europe and tried to appeal to the american market but the american audience rejected her + she takes long breaks between albums 1
Scandalous Posted September 2 Posted September 2 You Love Who You Love was #1 for 17 weeks on the Scandalous Hot 100 earlier this year
Billionaire Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Her label doesn't care and her material sucks which is a shame cause she's such a great vocalist.
Selegend Posted September 2 Posted September 2 the music it's the problem. most of it is generic/faceless she's so talented, gorgeous and has a great personality she needs more artistic songs.
