judasmonster Posted September 1 Posted September 1 R&b did not dominate the charts at all this year, especially the hot 100, but I think the girls definitely carried and gave us some of the best albums of the year. Any favs y'all have so far or recommend? some of mine: Kehlani - Crash / While We Wait 2 Tinashe - Quantum Baby Muni Long - Revenge Chloe - Trouble in Paradise Tyla - Tyla Normani - Dopamine Maeta - Endless Night Amaarae - roses are red, tears are blue (Fountain Baby deluxe)
mons†er Posted September 1 Posted September 1 Very disappointed in every R&B release that has come thus far this year. None of the project have been consistent or cohesive to me. I think the only person I'm looking forward to is Victoria Monet's new EP. 3
ChooseyLover Posted September 1 Posted September 1 I have yet to listen to Chloe, Maeta and Amaarae. I've heard Tems released and it's good but I haven't checked that one either. Tyla and Normani have dropped the best albums imo but the others have given us some solid tracks too. I anticipate FLO's ACCESS ALL AREAS album to be the best of the year so I'd recommend the singles they have out atm (Walk Like This, Caught Up, Check and Bending My Rules). 2
KatyPrismSpirit Posted September 1 Posted September 1 I liked Tyla's debut and loved Revenge by Muni Long. I also did like Quantum Baby a lot. Thats about it tho tbh. Trouble In Paradise had a few nice tracks but I havent listened to it since the day it came out. Kehlani's albums made no noise. I didn't like the Amaarae deluxe as much as the original album and Dopamine aged for me like 3 days after it was released. Never came back to it. 1
itshyolee Posted September 1 Posted September 1 (edited) I wouldn't really categorize Tyla as R&B, but I definitely loved her album and bought it. All the R&B girlies did what they had to do this year, but Jhenè Aiko, Summer Walker, and SZA are definitely missed. Edited September 1 by itshyolee 3

Ngl I'm digging Revenge but I lowkey wish Muni went full on old school R&B. The most modern tracks are not as strong imo. 1
mons†er Posted September 1 Posted September 1 (edited) It's usually one song in the album I actually like and the rest I could do without. Edited September 2 by mons†er

ChooseyLover Posted September 1 Posted September 1 Also I remember everyone that an Aaliyah Discography Rate is taking place and we need people to join. Can't believe a Taylor Rate has like 100 ATRLers joining and this Aaliyah one will be lucky to even get to 5. I expect all of you with Aaliyah in your signature to move your asses. For god's sake!
Wicked Posted September 1 Posted September 1 They've dropped a lot of mediocre to solidly good but not great albums. The only great female R&B album I heard this year was from Erika de Casier. Ravyn Lenaes album is worth a mention too. 1
Jay L Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Yes there's has been a lot of quality R&B releases this year that deserve some love Lemme focus on a few songs for people to listen to. Maybe they'll stream the albums (if released yet) too 1
