SoldierofLove Posted August 31 Posted August 31 I was listening to the Portrait remix and thought to myself, "This kinda sounds like raspy speak singing." Don't get me wrong. She can still sing but her voice has matured and changed through the years and is vastly different than her peak clear and pristine vocal years. How would you describe the state of her voice these days?
YourFavoriteWeapon Posted September 1 Posted September 1 Her current voice reminds me of the feeling when liquid "goes down the wrong pipe" so-to-speak and you take a second to breathe while the liquid is still permeating down your throat. 8
blackoutbaby Posted September 1 Posted September 1 I mean, she has nodules so idk what anyone expects. Still sounds better than LJo - not that that's hard 3 1 1

Taste of Honey Posted September 1 Posted September 1 (edited) I think (ironically), her voice has probably been more stable than it's ever been for the last 6-8 years or so. She still sounds roughly the same as she did on Caution. Nowadays she has her valleys, but she still has her peaks as well. Her voice may not be what it was, or work in the ways she may like, but her mind and creativity is still there. The Portrait remix is honestly one of my favorite things she's ever recorded, for exact that reason. She's giving you a bit of everything she can do, on maybe a different scale. Like, that crazy complex scat section she does in the last 10 seconds(and then just laughs off like it's nothing)? That is an example what separates regular singers from THE Mariah Carey, even now. Devin Posted September 1 Posted September 1 not where it used to be but she still can outsing girls. 2
ericcartman Posted September 1 Posted September 1 Not good but it doesn't matter. We judge artists on their peak.
holyground13 Posted September 1 Posted September 1 I mean sadly it's not as strong as it used to be that's natural, she's still f***ing Mariah Carey. I would adore a new album it's been a minute. 1
Yes, AND Posted September 1 Posted September 1 She hasn't sung a full song live in years so i think that tells you all you need to know. When she has to lip Obsessed, things are bad. 1 1

Rihinvention Posted September 1 Posted September 1 I truly mean this as a compliment, but for some reason it sounds shady… I would describe it as a recovering alcoholic. Like it's not what it once was, but it's rapidly improving and getting closer to its former glory.
