LittleStarmen Posted August 31 Posted August 31 (edited) While a lot of people made fun of Madonna when she released ***** I'm Madonna. This was another example of her being ahead of the curve with the Hyperpop/Computer sound (thanks to SOPHIE) and the cheeky self referential TikTok style lyrics. I believe that had Madonna had this as a first single and a video with multiple celebrities dressed as Madonnas (like the celebration tour performance) this wouls no doubt fared better. Was Madonna the original BRAT? Was she so Julia? Edited August 31 by LittleStarmen 1 1 4

MerveAksak Posted August 31 Posted August 31 For me it's the opposite. I adore Madonna and stream her music daily but this song was literally her trying to appeal to younger audiences meanwhile being BRAT is about not giving a f*ck about what people think about your music. At least in my opinion 7 3 1
Sheep Posted August 31 Posted August 31 Rebel Heart had several sounds and collaborators that were years ahead of the industry, doesn't mean it was brat 5
Rihinvention Posted August 31 Posted August 31 No. Musical genres don't just fall out of coconut trees. They exist in the context of all in which they live, and all that came before them. Basically they evolve. This was probably influenced by Skrillex, LMFAO and Diplo because that's the context in which it existed, and what was popular at the time. I also don't think Charli was influenced by it because, well, it sucks. Madonna's a legend but I don't think Charli has ever considered this song an inspiration for her sound. 3 1 1
Love Drought Posted August 31 Posted August 31 No it wasn't. I like Madge but it was the early 2010's EDM sound and it came across as forceful. Very different from the hyperpop sound we have almost a decade now. Maybe it would've worked if she had the sarcastic, comical approach to it as opposed to the entitled and condescending tone she had for years prior to that. 2 1
tiagol88 Posted August 31 Posted August 31 (edited) Brat? No…but Madonna was the first main pop girl (only?) to work with Sophie and one of the few main pop girls so far to venture into this type of music. The song deserved better tbh. I also think that she was given so much **** for that video and i was watching Kylies new video for Edge of Saturday Night and everyone is complimenting her for "having fun", "having the time of her life" and im like….Madonna did videos like this in her mid 50s and everyone called her a hoe and "Not aging gracefully " yet kylie doing the same 10 years later is "having fun" she did it 10 years too soon. Now Kylie, Jlo etc are doing it and no one calls them try hard lmao. Edited September 1 by tiagol88 5 2

Living for love and Ghosttown were exactly what new modern Madonna songs should've been like but justifying this mess that is B***h I'm Madonna is just pathetic. 2 2

This is the woman who released God Control and Dark Ballet after this mess. Just accept it sucks and move on... 1

If you're referencing GC and DB as examples of something GOOD than there is really no point in explaining anything to you. Sorry. Just because something is offensively ugly and horrible as those 2 songs doesn't mean it's artistic. Sorry. Edited August 31 by NoAngelus 2

Sorry. well they are far better than this song though... GC video still stands better than this video of madonna jumping around and getting cameos from other celebs as much as she can so she can get more views... 1 2

There's really no reason to be dumbfounded by how Kylie's video was more receptive to the GP (or lack thereof, I dunno the view count or general public reception). Even more so when you add onto the fact that Kylie was never as big as Madonna, so the "Kylie was given so must ****" argument would never be comparable to Madonna especially when you're comparing a video Kylie did a few days ago compared to Madonna's that came out a decade ago with more high profile cameos.

They are not and I'm glad numbers on both Spotify and youtube show that. 1
