She might pull a Blonde or The Iron Lady, but she needs to campaign. She's not on lock any longer and I don't see the industry universally loving her as with Meryl.

 

Regarding Gaga chances: they only gave an Oscar for Joaquin for Joker because he was loooong overdue, more than a decade, with great movies with some of the greatest american filmmakers like PTA. On top of that he booked a zeitgeist film for that year. The Academy is not very fond of rewarding Superhero movies or franchises, in general, on acting fields. A nom for Gaga will already feel like a major win. She not only needs to do good, which I'm sure she will, she needs to overcome their bias against these projects.
 

Funnily enough, I think Gaga would've been perfect for a Larrain movie like Maria, and she would probably use her own vocals too. She just feels perfect for a psychological drama/thriller
