TTPD less acclaimed than almost all new MPG albums. Why?

Metacritic:

brat: 95

Cowboy Carter: 91

Sour: 91

S.O.S.: 90

HMHAS: 89

Eternal Sunshine: 84

Did You Know... (Lana): 80

Chromatica: 79

Short 'n' Sweet: 79

TTPD: 76

It only outacclaims Radical Optimism, the Nicki Minaj album and Future 143. Surprised and why?

You need to listen to that one a few times to get it and the critics wrote their rushed reviews after just 1 play. :razzle:

Critics are fake af. They're just riding the "she's overexposed! too many releases" wave. If she released this before Midnight it would've been just as acclaimed.

As it's been stated before, TTPD is a boring album.

It's a bad album, but it's actually better than many of the albums above it. Like Eternal Sunshine and Cowboy Carter. ☺️

its too long. That is good for the fans but imo it would've been so much better as a 11-13 track album. I have near 1k scrobbles on it and can't remember how some of the songs go :rip:

TTPD has a 76. It may not be critically acclaimed, but by no means is a 76 indicative of a bad album. :rip:

I think the narrative hurt the album score more than the music itself.

It is very long but without the backlash it would have been an 78-81 at least (maybe minus a few songs)

I don't like it but then I didn't like Midnights and that got good reviews. I think it's more that she hasn't done anything innovative since folklore/Evermore so the critics felt a bit tired of her. She just needs to come up with something a bit more interesting and she'll be getting her rave reviews as usual.

it's not something new. she's done all of that before. lyrics are even more wordy than her folkmore songs plus slow, no energy productions and very calm vocal delivery in most of the songs are the reasons why people say it's boring.

but she needs to hit new lows to reach new highs :ryan3:

Taylor fatigue.
Critics are sick of her. The album is still amazing and more personal than all of her 2020s album. Anyway, she's so insecure hopefully this drives her to change sound/producers next album.

it's really a bad album both sonically and lyrically

so if critics say that it must be true!

She's over!

Because it's her weakest album.

She has a very bad reputation atm

The album is not great but is not that bad

Is too bloated, the tracks are completely disconnected, she's too old for some of the lyrics and fighting still with Kim in 2024 was absolutely insane

Some of the tracks are good

The album would've had great reception if it was 9-10 tracks, the best ones

From now on I think she's gonna get panned every time she release albums that long

:katie:  That 91 for SOUR is actually for Olivia's flop album GUTS

There's two reasons:

- The album is extremely long. To warrant such a long album, she would need every song to be essential and that's sadly not the case.

- Taylor herself. The girl is overexposed. That doesn't harm her in terms of success, but the critics are obviously tired of her when you read some of the things they wrote like Paste Magazine :deadbanana4:

The album deserved better acclaim-wise though. But oh well... better luck next time and in the meantime I'll wait for the revision of the album in 5/6 years like it happened with Reputation.

The album is not my favorite, but it is absolutely better than the overall consensus from non-fans right now. People are just too sick of her.

I think we'll see it reviewed with more favorability over the next several decades when Taylormania is long gone.
