CottageHore Posted August 28 Posted August 28 I'm a progressive gay at heart but some of these chronically online "progressive" ppl on TikTok are so insufferable, specifically the white queer ones. Everything is a trigger, they have no time for nuance and civil conversation. Anyone with a slightly different take than them is "evil". It's like everyone there is offended by everything yet it's so clearly forced and disingenuous. Am I turning into my boomer uncle or do y'all notice this too? 2
Popular Post dumbsparce Posted August 28 Popular Post Posted August 28 Let me guess. Do these people have more than one color on their hair too? 16
Jotham Posted August 28 Posted August 28 I constantly mark their videos as "not interested" yet they somehow ALWAYS find a way back to my FYP. 1
TouchinFree Posted August 28 Posted August 28 When it started a few years ago it was actually valid. Now it feels like self projection and inner issues.
Pavement Princess Posted August 28 Posted August 28 I think the extremist, self centered with little perspective for nuance sort of "progressivism" is actively anti progressive by validating all the arguments against any sort of progressive movement with the theatrics and reactionary antics. Also wanting open mindedness also entails you have to have an open mind yourself and be up for dissent. 4
Shinkirou Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Virtue signaling is such a dumb term I'm sorry. Just say "prude", "puritan" "moralist". "Virtue signaling" is such a nothing term it doesn't even register as a pejorative in my brain. 3 2
Phaunzie Posted August 28 Posted August 28 (edited) Yea, srry can't elaborate right now, listening to Uffie Cool. Update: Ok back, they are annoying, especially the weird grandstanding ones that proceed to make video essays that say nothing than 'this person is weird, this person is strange, or the worst "the internet does not like this person, so I won't". Junipero Posted August 28 Posted August 28 (edited) These people are usually narcissists with a high ego. I have a theory that they say the most fringe and "shocking" stuff because it is an easy way to gain attention; they also usually attach a trending topic to go viral. I don't think they actually believe what they say. For exmaple, if one said "Taylor Swift fans are racist because of X, Y, Z and if you support her, you are upholding white supremacy, anti-feminism; look at this 10 second clip of her singinger which is a white supremacist dogwhistle" it would probably bring hordes of Taylor Swift fans to try and debate in the comments; for example, this would be taking advantage of her huge fanbase to go viral, but also claim stuff that is soo out of scope that people want to comment and say "that is a stretch/reach." The part that really makes it go viral is that people will question "DO people like this person with this opinion really exist?" Edited August 28 by Junipero 2

Nah not everyone opts for the most pretentious words possible to convey a simple point you know what "virtue signaling" means and I didn't use it with the intention of it being a pejorative so perhaps that's why it doesn't register as such. Put down the thesaurus and stay on topic Edited August 28 by CottageHore 2 1

Trent W Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Tik tok is nothing more than an attention ***** cesspool They say anything or do anything for attention The way some people trigger and manipulate audience for attention is scary
Marianah Adkins Posted August 28 Posted August 28 These people are usually black and white thinkers who have no ability to discern nuance. Not any different from Republican/Conservative bible thumpers. 1
Europe Posted August 28 Posted August 28 (edited) You keep seeing these video because there is an active push to radicalize people and social media is great for that. My life became much better after I stopped using TikTok. Edited August 28 by AbeHicks 1 1
terrorblade Posted August 28 Posted August 28 i hate clout chasers everywhere they all can go to HELL💜 1
P!NK2LOVE Posted August 28 Posted August 28 I like to confirm their speculations by baiting them. Like now what. Gonna jump through your phone and punch me? Touch grass *****! 1
YourFavoriteWeapon Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Yes, the amount of Gen-Z'ers who try to claim that using the words "stupid" "dumb" is akin to saying ******ed and the amount of people who need trigger warnings for food 2
Namie-Knowles Posted August 28 Posted August 28 This thread stank. Dogwhistles already jumping out. Someone crosspost this thread on QAnon and Stormfront too
Princess Aurora Posted August 28 Posted August 28 TikTok is probably the most brainrot app after Facebook and Twitter or XYZ whatever its name is now.
Khal Posted August 28 Posted August 28 I think there are people who genuinely feel passionate about the topics/issues they are discussing, and there are others who have discovered in the age of 'hot takes', that any publicity is good publicity as long as it gets engagement, and are now milking it. It's important to differentiate the two.
