Why has Oasis stood the test of time more than Blur?

Back in the 90s, Britpop was defined by the fierce rivalry between Blur and Oasis, especially during the iconic "Battle of Britpop" in 1995.

Blur had their share of hits in the UK, and even a couple of classics which are still remembered today (Parklife and Girls & Boys). However, Oasis seems to have left a bigger mark.

Oasis just announced a 14-date stadium tour across the UK and Ireland, which will likely sell out quickly and more dates will probably be added. I can't help but wonder if Blur could draw the same kind of crowd today.

So, why do you think Oasis has had more staying power than Blur over the years?

blur never tried to be massive group like oasis

plus their sound was very….um… British

Because they were always bigger? It says a lot that they're still the biggest British act to emerge from the '90s, with the Spice Girls & Robbie Williams trailing behind them (and both had HUGE peaks as well).

Blur have several albums in the last 10 years

Oasis haven't even gotten 1 in more than 10 years.. (last one was 2008)

+Blur's frontman is focusing on Gorillaz at the moment

Oasis were always bigger, even if Blur's music is better

Oasis always had more GP classics, in fact it was Blur's rivalry with Oasis that made them bigger stars during the 90's heyday of Britpop. + Oasis's more working class background made them more appealing to the GP, whereas Blur were seen as being a bit more highbrow and were more embraced by critics. That + the lore around Liam and Noel's feud added to the hype for a comeback.

Blur is boring and forgettable whereas Oasis gave us Wonderwall which is one of the best love songs ever created.

britpop discourse on atrl lmao

i think the best thing oasis did for themselves was split up, means they can come back and the focus is on their best stuff which is nearly 30 years old now. blur had an album out last year and it was rubbish, that kind of thing sticks in the mind

Working class creativity always prevails in the UK (I wish the government would fund it more)

They were always bigger commercially. Though their music stopped being interesting post 1995... meanwhile Blur have a long string of great albums post the britpop era.

Oasis was commercially much more successful than Blur, and their aesthetics and the whole feud between the siblings make them more easily palatable celebrities. Plus, the fact Noel and Liam hate each other guts makes any reunion a possible once-in-a-lifetime event which obviously drives interest, sales, coverage, etc.

Oasis' much bigger commercial viability has literally nothing to do with "standing the test of time," and it's actually quite stupid to suggest so.

Oasis had Wonderwall and constant drama. They also had a lot of crossover appeal outside of their respective circles. Blur did not.

Because Blur's frontman was smashing with Gorillaz, even by 99 Oasis were over and Blur were still relevant with that alternative album they released.

I've seen Noel and Liam play festivals several times and the highlights for the audience are always the songs from that one album (not even the entire Oasis discography): Wonderwall, Morning Glory, Champagne Supernova, Don't Look Back in Anger, etc. Meanwhile Damon has successfully launched Gorillaz and The Good, The Bad and The Queen. That's kinda why. :michael:

Blur clears. They had artistry and did a lot of different rock sounds with each album and damon went on to explore further with Gorillaz. Oasis is nostalgia act. Cute remembered hits but not much more

but real ones know that Pulp and Suede were the two big jewels of britpop. I'd even take Elastica over Oasis anyday

As many have said, Gorillaz exist :giraffe:

Blur will have a resurgence one day!

Because Oasis have "Definitely Maybe" and "What's the Story (morning Glory) in their discography.

Never liked BLEUGH, tbh.

quite obvious once you listen to their first two albums, just hit after hit living in your head forever. blur is more singles band whereas only one of their album mentioned in polls but not influence at all and forgettable.
