YourFavoriteWeapon Posted August 27 Posted August 27 (edited) I feel like this opinion might be unpopular, but I always thought that Neve Campbell deserved big shining roles in Oscar/Emmy nominated projects and I wish she had a much bigger career. I've always viewed her as a really strong actress and feel like she deserves more recognition by the industry. Her subtle yet emotional performances in the Scream movies are outstanding and I also really love her in House of Cards and The Lincoln Lawyer. I think she has always been underappreciated by famous directors and the industry, most likely due to her taking a break from the industry by moving to London as well as the Scream franchise leaving her feeling quite pigeon-held. I feel like she also chose some odd parts and missed out on some great roles (re: she turned down playing Jennifer Connelly's character in Requiem for a Dream, as well as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider), which in turn put her in a tough position career wise. I'd definitely put her way closer to the Kirsten Dunsts/Christina Riccis of the world rather than the Rebecca Gayheart/Denise Richards. Now that she is back to working regularly and getting mainstream projects again, I would love to see her in big-budget movies. I feel like she would devour a role in a David Fincher, Nicolas Winding Refn, or Ari Aster project as long as she was able to showcase the depth and range I have. I have no doubt that, with the right material and character, she would get awards and shed the stigma of being mostly known for slasher films the same way Jamie Lee Curtis was able to. (also please no unnecessary drags regarding her signing onto Scream 7, let the sis put food on the table) Edited August 27 by YourFavoriteWeapon 1
Venice B Posted August 27 Posted August 27 She was the one who declined a lot of big roles in the beggining of her career because she was an "arts not the charts" kinda girl so it's all her own fault tbh... 1
undermyskin Posted August 27 Posted August 27 (edited) I agree with everything said here. She is honestly a phenomenal actress but unfortunately she was typecast due to how huge Scream was/is. I wasn't aware those roles she was up for at the time, though. I wonder why she passed on Requiem or a Dream (Tomb Raider I can understand). I think her not being a bigger actress is partly her fault though as well. She took a huge break when she moved to London and apparently passed on some projects that probably would've helped catapult her past Scream a bit more. I do remember reading something where she said something along the lines of the fame being too much post-Scream, so I can understand that. Thankfully, I think Scream kind of set her up for life and continues to so at least she's good on that front. Edited August 27 by undermyskin 1 1

She passed on Requiem for a Dream due to her no nudity clause but broke said clause a couple years later for When Will I Be Loved (which bombed horrifically despite it being one of her best roles) 1

Yes, the art of taking the roles for Three to Tango and Hairshirt while rejecting Requiem for a Dream 5
okgo Posted August 27 Posted August 27 yes, but I never viewed her as someone who was that ambitious/career driven either tbh.. she already has quite a few iconic projects under her belt and will always be remembered/made her mark which is more than most actors can say anyway (and hopefully she does still get more solid opportunities to add to her resume) and this is kinda random because Rachel McAdams obviously has the better career and they're not that similar but I always found something about them alike for some reason maybe it's the Canadian in them and low key anti-Hollywood lifestyle 1

It really could've been the most acclaim she's ever received in her career.
Squall Posted August 27 Posted August 27 No hate but as much as I love Sidney, she isn't an outstanding actress. 2
tshwark Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Well, she was quite huge during Party of Five and Scream, she just didn't want that level of fame. 1

A lot of people feel similarly as you which I find to be unfortunate as a fan of hers, but I feel like she's just waiting to be handed that one BIG role to prove everything wrong. She needs her EEAAO moment like JLC got. Edited August 27 by YourFavoriteWeapon
Totami Legend Posted August 27 Posted August 27 she is not very talented also Zionist and back stabber. loved her in skyscraper tho

Thesedays Posted August 27 Posted August 27 The way she agreed to go back to Scream to save the franchise after the zionist pro-genocide production company threw Melissa Barrera under the bus for defending human rights makes me think no, she doesn't deserve a bigger career. 3 2
JustHoran Posted August 27 Posted August 27 She also was amazing in The Craft. She turned down a LOT of roles back then. Maybe she doesn't want to be huge like that or atleast didn't at the time. She's still very successful but I would have loved for her to have been bigger. Atleast she's amazing as Sidney 1
Johnny Jacobs Posted August 28 Posted August 28 (edited) I never saw her in anything besides scream now that i think about it. Edited August 28 by Johnny Jacobs

I mean would you rather have her save the franchise from ruin or let it be destroyed and rebooted? She's simply just trying to ensure it doesn't go down in flames and that they wouldn't go the ScreaMTV Season 3 route by making it centered around a bunch of new characters. There's nothing wrong with her wanting to save a franchise that means a lot to her. The Melissa situation has jackshit to do with her and she shouldn't feel obligated to bat for a woman she only worked with for three weeks, especially since Melissa didn't offer to take a pay cut or stand in solidarity with Neve other than making a "I'm proud of her for sticking to her guns!" ass statement knowing that Spyglass lowballing her was them being misogynistic. Oh I'm not sure tbh. It kind of felt like they were just supporting characters, but yes imo she would have been better playing the character that Robin Tunney played

Josh Posted August 28 Posted August 28 She had a better career than most her age now would dream of. Party Of Five was one of the biggest family dramas of the 90's. 1
